Perhaps replace the current Mr Wong Detective release with this one?:

I looked up this BD-R on Amazon, and sure enough the reviewers there say this is no better than The Ape DVD. So I'm glad Kino is rescuing it. I'm sure they'll do a great job. They're giving it a 2K restoration.

That's weird, cause I have the Lugosi double feature from them, and I'm certain that's a pressed BD. Glad I resisted temptation to buy this then.

You missed this:
https://www.amazon.com/Tonight-Never...6092765&sr=8-1

Sadly out of print.
The Hope Diamond Mystery (1921) is at Serial Squadron and is well restored. They also have Graft (1931)
Ditto for the Masked Rider, which is restored with reconstruction for missing bits. They are doing Lightening Raider and King of Kong in sound as well.
You can get cheapie DVDs of King of the kongo
Behind That Curtain (1929) in some set i recall.

The Utah Kid (1930) is here:https://www.amazon.com/Karloff-Befor.../dp/B008SAPBWQ

Along with the remaining reels of Phantom of the North.
You can find unlicensed DVDs of Gift of Gab and a few other of the sound ones on your list.

And the Ape/Black Raven blu ray is better than the DVDs out there, but still really bad. Wait for Kinos restoration.

This release has better video than HD Cinema Classics' release:

Also, maybe note the AIP version of Black Sabbath as well?:

The Mask of Fu Manchu is currently being shown on iTunes and VUDU in 1080p. So with that, and the recent announcement of the Christopher Lee Fu Manchu box set by Indicator in the UK, this would be an ideal time (are you listening WAC?) to get the Boris Karloff version out on blu-ray now.

Fantastic news! BFI has just announced that they will be releasing Targets with a new HD master on March 12. I had thought Shout Factory might have released this by now because they have a deal with Paramount. But BFI is better!

EDIT: The current release date was changed to March 22.

EDIT: The current release date has now been moved to October 4.

Well it's finally happening! The six Karloff films made at Columbia that I mentioned in post #14 of this thread are finally coming to blu-ray as Karloff at Columbia! Fantastic news for Karloff fans indeed! I didn't see this coming, though. It's Eureka that's going to release this set as announced two days ago.

Since Powerhouse/Indicator has a deal with Sony, I've been in contact with them asking if the six Columbia--Karloff films would make a good set. They said yes; that was a year ago.
So I followed up with another email about ten days ago and they said that these films "were on their hit-list" with Sony, but "it's a painfully slow process."

So now we learn that Eureka is going to do the honors. And it's going to be just a two disc set. Not as many extras as Indicator might have had, with possibility each film having its own disc. But, still, this is s great announcement! Can't wait for late April.

P.S. I realize this thread is for US releases but as a hugh Boris Karloff fan, I felt that other fans would appreciate getting any new information on Karloff films be all in one place.

Wow, 2021 is starting to be the year of Boris Karloff on blu-ray! Warner Archive just announced that they plan to release Isle of the Dead, which was previously cancelled by Scream Factory over a year ago. No actual release date yet from WAC. But this is indeed excellent news!

EDIT/UPDATE: The scheduled release date is March 30.

Other than Caldron of Blood, have any of the Mexican Karloff movies been released on bluray?

Most copies out there seem to be cut or have mediocre quality.
I started watching House of Evil on DVD (which I had never seen before), but the quality was quite bad.

No, none. House of Evil IMO is the best of those.

Cauldron of Blood is a US/Spanish co-production.

Just re-watched The Haunted Strangler which I hadn’t seen in a while, great performance by Karloff and right up there with his best films (ie: The Mummy, Frankenstein, The Body Snatcher, The Incredible Dr. Markesan, Black Sabbath, and Son of Frankenstein).

want The Walking Dead on blu

‘Boris Karloff: The Man Behind The Monster’ Doc Gets U.S. Deal Via Abramorama & Shout!; Watch The Trailer

Shout! Studios and Abramorama are teaming on North American rights to Boris Karloff: The Man Behind the Monster, the Thomas Hamilton-directed feature documentary about the life and career of the horror movie icon. Abramorama will release the pic in a limited theatrical run on September 17.

Abramorama is also repping world rights on the film, which Shout! will release on digital platforms at a later date.

Check out the trailer below.

The film dives deep into Karloff’s own origin story — real name: William Henry Pratt — as well as the genre he helped define and the filmmakers he influenced. It features clips of his performances throughout a six-decade career that changed forever when James Whale cast the character actor as The Monster in 1931’s Frankenstein, and includes exclusive interviews with his daughter Sarah Karloff, as well as the likes of Guillermo del Toro, Ron Perlman, Stefanie Powers, Christopher Plummer, Peter Bogdanovich, John Landis, Lee Grant, Joe Dante, Roger Corman, Norman Jewison, David J. Skal and Gregory W. Mank.

Karloff appears in a rather significant role in Wheeler & Woolsey's Pre-Code comedy Cracked Nuts. It's part of the Warner Archive W&W set Vol. 1. Just watched it last night!
