Might as well also mention that some of the bonus content on the British release of Series Four is absent on this Australia release. Namely, the Birds Eye Peas, Harmony Hairspray and Close-Up Toothpaste films.

Clearly the bloke encoding the discs for local release was doing them all on the same afternoon, and by the time he got to Series Four, his wife Sheryl was badgering him on the phone to pick up a bottle of goon from Dan Murphy's, so he just said f*ck it and dumped the remaining extras so he could get out the door and hit the pub on the way home.

I've tested two copies of the boxset and both times the second half of 'Whither Canada' and the first few minutes of 'Sex and Violence' won't play properly. The disc keeps skipping ahead a few seconds. I only have the one blu-ray player so I can't test it on another system.

Otherwise I'm really happy with the box set as a whole.

Cheers.
I had the same issue with the same episodes on disc 1. Playback errors on a SA and an XBOX ONE X
I took my copy back and the replacement plays fine. I also notified via vision who wee keen to find out if the replacement was ok. Maybe notify them as it may in fact be a manufacturing error and keep swapping boxes until you get a good one

It is a shame that these items are not present, however a quick youtube search sees them at least viewable online, and while it is definitely a loss to not have them, being that they were in-house promotional films created for various companies outside of python, they strictly are not 100% associated with the episodes of any of the series

Thanks for the response. Yeah, I'll try another replacement copy and i'll notify via vision about the problem.

RE the bonus features, I'm not too perturbed about their absence. Just wanted to mention it for those unsure about buying this release vs. the British one.

Default Series 1 Disc 1 errors

I've got EXACTLY same errors on my set as well; it's not your bad luck, it's actually a faulty release of Series 1 Disc 1. My Oppo 203 froze / skipped while playing this, even after checking, cleaning, and turning everything off & on again.
To check the disc for problems, I used the old freeware program VSO Inspector (paired with RedFox AnydvdHD to remove copy protection for easier scanning) and it picked up some serious errors that made sections of it unreadable. The other seasons, 2/3/4, scanned just fine.

Seeing the rest of the box-set passed scanning, I just gave up looking for a "non faulty" box-set; Via-Vision didn't bother replying to my emails, so as a last resort, I ordered the UK version of Series 1 directly from Network https://networkonair.com/all-product...ies-1-blu-ray- .
It cost me $36 Aust. all up, and could take 5-8 weeks to get here (due to dumkoff global virus) but I trust Network's bluray quality.
(I've ordered Gerry Anderson stuff & The Prisoner from them in the past.)

I have watched the first three episodes of Series 1 and haven't noticed any skips or other hiccups. I should have a fast forward through the remaining episodes to see if it locks up at any point (as that is what I usually do when I produce Blu-rays for others to make sure that they're in good working order).

The UK Network Series 1 Disc 1 didn't play on some players either.

Default Replacement S1/D1 Disc issued

Good news for those who didn't (unlike me) go to the trouble of ordering the UK version of series 1 as a replacement:

ViaVision are now offering replacement Series 1 / Disc 1 Blu-rays, ready to be shipped; just contact them on the link below, and let them know you have the dodgy version of the disc.

Looks like Via Vision have re-released the set in 2023. As far as I can tell it is the exact same set, physically and otherwise, but with (I wld imagine) the corrected version of Disc 1. The UPC/EAN code for this edition is 9337369037769.
