Don't get the big whoop with this one. Maybe I need to watch it again. Saw it in theaters, and my only takeaway was JK Simmons is a badass. Liked La La Land even less.

Chazelle is, in my mind, the most overrated director currently making films.

Happy for all of you that want this, but I can think of 30 movies from the last 10 years I'd rather have in UHD.

It’s just an underrated film that a lot of people overlooked. Maybe because it’s jazz/big band/swing music? But the movie really isn’t about that. Such a shame this didn’t get more notoriety. Such a great great film and a day 1 purchase of the 4k for me. Can’t wait.

Damn! 2020 might be a terrible year but, that's not the case with all these amazing 4K announcements! Wow.

This really is a great movie, but I doubt I'll double-dip for the UHD.

I actually abhor almost all jazz. But, as you say, that's not what this great film is really about.

While I have four different steelbooks of Whiplash, that Best Buy steel is a monstrosity. Will get the regular 4K.
One of my top 10 favorites of the decade, for sure. Should look amazing and continue to be endlessly rewatchable.

Whiplash blew me away. I saw it right before it left theaters during its initial run before all the Oscar nods. I'd really enjoyed Teller in The Spectacular Now and 21 & Over(hell, he was even good in the Footloose remake), and I'd heard great things about Simmons in the film.

It was freezing cold in that auditorium and there were only two other people in there, neither of whom got up to ask the usher to turn the AC off full blast. But I didn't care. I stayed in my seat the entire time and was speechless by the end.

I might wait for a sale. I've only seen it once, but do own the Zavvi steelbook.

This is a surprise. It's not really a movie I ever thought needed a 4K HDR disc release, but I'll get it regardless. Great movie!

I think with 2K upscale Sony has proven it's self good because of it's hot HDR. Case and point, Trainspotting 2.

To be fair it would have been a pretty tall order for Chazelle to surpass Whiplash and La La Land. First Man is still a great movie though, loved it a lot more on my second viewing.

Some info:
Quote:
To achieve all of this, Meir went with the ARRI ALEXA, shooting in ProRes 4444 in HD, which he feels is a great look minus the headache of shooting ARRIRAW, "unless you’re under some specific or extreme circumstances that you need a cleaner image for CGI and VFX."

And Meir did his due diligence, testing the ProRes against the RAW, as he did in the past on other projects, ultimately deciding that it didn’t really add any latitude in the stops. "In the very wide shots, I find that you can entertain shooting on higher resolution," he explains. "It’s 2.7K on the RAW with the ALEXA, and we shot just under 2K, at 1080p. The difference between the 1080 and 2K, resolution-wise, is negligible, so it’s not worth it to me, and there are some things the camera can’t do in 2K that it can do in HD."
