First look at Janeway:

The show will be set in 2383. That's after Voyager and before ST: Picard.

Voice cast announced, that's a pretty good line up.

Animation looks good. Hope it feels like Trek and not generic action sci-fi.

I thought the double opening episode was a blast. Clearly taking cues from the Star Wars animated shows but that's not a bad thing to me. This was high energy and exciting with some good mysteries presented.

I like some characters much more than others. Rok is great, Zero is kind of fascinating. Gwyn probably has more depth than the rest of the characters put together. Dal was the problematic one, far too in-your-face, so it's a shame that he's ostensibly the "lead" role.

Visually this was glorious too. I loved a lot of the designs and use of colour.
The best moment was obviously the closing seconds

The big questions for me:
[Show spoiler]- How did the Protostar get there, and what happened to its crew?
- The bad guy said he had been searching for the ship for a long time, but we've been told by the creators that this show is set only a few years after Voyager, so something doesn't entirely add up at this point.
- Similarly, how come there were so many Alpha Quadrant species here? Mysterious!

The test now is whether my nephews (aged 5 and 7) will be into this at all. I'd love to watch it with them.

Why so many Alpha Quadrant species in the Delta Quadrant? Simple. Think back to the VOY episode "The '37s" . Could have been the Caretaker? Who knows! That's why it's Star Trek!

I agree with most of your points, I found it OK to Above average, I think I need a few more episodes to see if I actually like the show. Gwyn is by far the best of the lot and seems to have some depth, but yes Dal is your stereotypical in-your-face cocky lead we've seen a hundred times and was pretty grating, I don't know why show creators think we like those types of characters, as far as I'm aware it doesn't appeal to anyone. They either need to claim him down or focus more on the others.

But overall it was a good start and interested in seeing more

Found this on the CTV app. Seems to be a repurposed Star Wars show. Full of Droids & Hooded Cloaks. Anyway, not worth more than 10 minutes of my time.

That was pretty darn fun and entertaining and I say that as a life long trek fan in his mid 40s. The animation was beautiful, at times I thought I was watching a movie, the music was spot on, that closing credit sequence was a treat.

The show itself is going in a totally new direction while at the sometime being a spiritual successor to VOY which you actually don't need to have watched to enjoy this. I hope the kids enjoy this as much as I did, watched it again on Saturday with some friends my age who also seem to really enjoy to.

And they know exactly how to pull my strings as I felt like screaming at the end as I really did just want more. And just to think in about 3 weeks we will have two Trek shows on.

LOL no, some of the shots were too ambitious and they clearly ran out of time to render every frame because towards the end of the episode when they were flying the ship it looked like they were animating on 2's and looked very jerky, which is a great shame because if it was 30 fps with a bit of motion blur then I would have agreed with you and it would have looked spectacular. But they shit the bed a little there.

I suppose I should have accepted the fact that Star Trek isn’t Star Trek anymore a long time ago, but every time there’s a new show, I get a bit of hope again. From the initial image of the cast this time around though, I wasn’t expecting much. Feeling more like Star Wars than Trek, and with animation that looks more like a video game than a TV show (in every way, from the style to the animation to the camera angles to the textures to the polish, or lack thereof), the pilot really didn’t do much for me, but then again, I guess I’m not the target audience anymore. I really don’t want this to be another big story arc Trek, especially if the theme is war, I really hope it’s much more episodic and exploration-based. I guess I’ll stick around another episode or two to see what they do with Janeway and see how things go now that they’re on the ship.

Episode 3 was wonderful, looks like I am in for the long haul. Still think the animation is top notch and very movie like.

Sorry, but him almost getting everyone killed with no repercussions what so ever pissed me off a bit. It put a dent in my enjoyment of the episode, I get everyone is angry with Gwyn because her dad enslaved them all, and that part was interesting.

But it would have been far better if she saved the day when she got out of brig so she can start to build trust and have Dal in the bring in the end so cool off and think about not being such an *******
