I would love this to be the reason but seeing as we have the art above showing a Blu-ray case and the Amazon listing clearly saying just Blu-ray don’t think that’s on the cards. Plus (not that HDR wouldn’t help) hasn’t most of the HK movies of this era been done in 2K?

This is great news, I love this movie! Still I'm torn between the versions, though. First saw it with english dubbed on vhs and thats the way I prefer it.
Too bad the fight-scenes where trimmed in the international version.

Japanese version released on bluray some years ago was my go-to for having the english dub along with the japanese music AND complete end-fight. Sadly other fight-scenes where still trimmed, just like the international cut.

Curious to see what versions that will eventually end up on this disc!

Personally I think the International cut is equally important to include as well. The ending fight is trimmed yes, but it was done on purpose to highlight the central parts of the fight. It was not a hack job done by local distributors like it was with for instance the UK release of Way of the dragon. Therefore I do hope that the International cut also ends up on this release, preferably in HD as well

That wasn't the distributors fault, we had very annoying censors back then!

Ah I understand. Same here in Norway, actually the distributor here imported the UK version and kept the already censored version, sometimes cut even more, frustrating period. But they did leave the already trimmed down ending fight of YM as it was hehe.

I'm really stoked about The Young Master. Somehow I have a feeling that "extra special" means more than just the HK and the international cut.

I always wanted to hear the JP soundtrack (is it Canto or English?) where the pop music from the international cut is used, but with a complete end fight. It just relentlessly goes on and on, it's amazing!

Isn't the music from the international cut from a Japanese composer, anyway? I much prefer it to the HK soundtrack, because this is what I saw first in German TV.
Don't get me wrong, I love The Planets by Gustav Holst, but to my ears it just doesn't fit to The Young Master.

I've only heard it with The Planets I think (on the HKL DVD)

I've never really been a fan of the Japanese soundtracks produced for Hong Kong films (maybe I'm too stilted in my views, but I found them inappropriate in tone). However, I'd make an exception for 'The Young Master' (possibly because I saw the international version first).

I always felt the Hong Kong one to be quite uninspired choice-wise because there was little (if anything) original; it used classical music and cues from other films.

Are there collectors (or know of anyone) of trailers on film (35 mm)?

We'd like to include the Golden Harvest English one newly transferred if there's an opportunity.

There's a little bit of Game of Death, LOTs of Holst. If anything is original, it's probably the little bouncy theme when the police tail Jackie.

If that's not the theme tune for your life, you're doing it wrong

Fantastic news, this was my most wanted title of the early JC films, and apparently it's getting extra special care, can't wait! Great release timing too, squeezing this in just before Brexit (hopefully it will suffer no delays, knock on wood).

That sounds like a song used on an advert at some point. The beginning sounds like the intro to that old song "In the Mood" or "Boogie-Woogie Bugle Boy"

This sh** right here is the audio equivalent to Dean Shek showing up on screen. When that little melody plays my sphincter contracts and my eyes roll
