Some say Hasbro didn't want him. Some say he didn't want to do PR anymore. All I know is I remember reading a post from JDF saying they were going in different directions and he was retiring from the PR series. I don't see why they wouldn't have wanted him since they clearly have the Green Ranger there. Some say he was upset Hasbro didn't want to pick up his Green Ranger series. Who knows. I wish they could have gotten the entire MMPR cast to do it. It would have been epic to see them with JDF and AJJ all together.
Also sucks no Bulk and Skull. Though I heard it's only like 50 minutes long, so I can see why they aren't in it, but still. Barbara Goodson and Richard Horvitz (voices of Rita and Alpha 5) also returned for it. |

Oh good. I was hoping feature-length, but 50 minutes will do. What I really worried about was it being like some of the 20-minute reunion episodes such as Dimensions in Danger as part of other seasons, where there really isn't time for much and it just rushes through.

For context, the person doing the explaining of what happened is Aaron Schoenke from Bat In The Sun Productions. He was friends with Jason David Frank. Before his death, JDF filmed the (still unreleased) movie called Legend Of The White Dragon, being made with Bat In the Sun Productions. The movie technically has nothing to do with Power Rangers (though likely shares some similar themes), and it is relevant for some of what is said here. |

Why weren't the vhs' music videos on the dvd/bluray set for the original series as a special feature? I can watch those instead of the episodes in my mid 30's

As for my thoughts, I had a fun time! Easy 8/10, loved that it was more serious. My only complaint is that it was a one-off special, wish it had been a series. |

That was superb! Upped the ante while still feeling totally faithful to it's early 90s roots. It was the Power Rangers I remember just 30 years later, not a reimagining.
I noted the violence (not just death) was a bit more in your face (just like the Sentai original), unlike PR which has always toned it down. I can't help but wonder if they used the 30th special as a tester for a streaming series or more specials aimed at a wider age range? After watching it, I'm sort of glad they didn't throw everything at it, because the plot was stronger by keeping focused and having most of the runtime servicing that. They struggled enough to use all the MMPR rangers who were involved. [Show spoiler] I didn't mind the dodgy CGI Megazord either, because it was recreating my childhood and remaining faithful to the original Zord sequence. It's better than the 95 movie Zord anyway in CG quality, and better than the more recent movie remake by design. Rocky's morpher is amazing though. You can drop pounds in seconds. I want one. ![]() Also worth it because of the snowflakes getting offended on social media because it had a gay couple in a scene. Last edited by oddbox83; 04-20-2023 at 10:39 AM. |

I thought the special was really well done, especially given the limits that they had to work within (i.e. budget and having to work around the actors who did not return).
I have mixed feelings on the missing actors, anyway. On the one hand, it would have been great to see them all (or as many of them as possible) reunited on screen after all these years. And it is sad that we didn't get one final appearance by JDF before his death. That being said, given that this is Walter Jones and David Yost's first time reprising their roles since they originally left the series, it is nice to see a good amount of the attention focused on them. If JDF had returned, he likely would have been the focus with most anyone else taking a back seat by comparison. It's clear that while still being relatively kid-friendly, they are aiming this special more so towards the adults who watched MMPR when they were kids. The material was taken more seriously, and the acting was definately well above average compared to what the norm is for PR. I'm not saying anyone should win an Emmy for it, but I could feel the weight of the serious moments. Tonally, probably the most jarring thing is having those serious moments be in the same special/episode as the relatively goofy looking CGI Mega Zord and monster it was fighting. I know they were limited on budget, and all things considered they did a decent job of re-creating the og Mega Zord. But it just felt silly and a little out of place in a special that took issues like death so seriously. To be clear, this is more of a nitpick than a complaint. So I'm not making TOO big of a deal about this. Still, all in all this was a very well done special. It seems like they left things a little open to potentially follow this up in some capacity. If that happens, it would be cool if they could get Amy Jo and/or ASJ to appear. |
