Yeah, I had to pick up the region free release of the sequel.

I wasn’t mad on the first film, I think I’m going to just buy my first ever used copy of the region free old version for £3. The fact I have the sequel and quite enjoyed it is playing with my head as I am a completist.
The original was the better made film yet I still preferred the sequel.

If it’s the same transfer as the old disc I’ll probably just pick that up instead.

They were both good but in different ways, the first movie felt more of a psychological horror and the sequel more like a slasher, the Second Sight release looks great, time to upgrade my 'DVD'

There only is one scan - pretty sure this film will have been from a DI, given its recent age. And there'd be no need to redo it.

And I'd like to add that I don't understand why anyone would pick the supposedly "new Shout scan" even over the previous Universal release anyway: https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?d1=11925&d2=11926&c=4696

I ordered the Second Sight and have no doubt that this was the right decision.

Well, just by looking at the first screenshot, the Shout disc has a lot more shadow detail than Universal's murky blobs. Look at the door f.ex.

I didn't look only at the first cap and wasn't referring only to the first one in particular.

In regard to the blacks, I will reserve judgement, but I prefer the Universal over the milky Shout at any rate. (again, not #1 in particular, but overall)

There's just no way I'd opt for the Shout over the Universal based on those caps.

The Shout encode is better. Universal's bitrate is lower, and because it's darker, shadow areas become very blocky. You can see this in other screenshots as well. Shout has nicely defined grain in the same areas.

To each their own, but there's no way Universal's disc is better.

Quick note on the NEW extras produced by 441 Films and Second Sight in regards to run times

Because You Were Home: Interview with Bryan Bertino 56.56
The Fighter: Interview with Liv Tyler 16.50
Cutting Moments: Interview With Kevin Greutert 43.01
The Pin Up Girl: Interview With Laura Margolis 19.55

Some great new content here, well worth the upgrade from both previous releases.

Interesting to see non-Severin extras (441 are closely aligned with 101 - it’s Phillip Escott’s company).

Anyone have an estimate how long base.com usually takes to ship to US? I got this shipped right before they started cancelling. Just curious!

Watched last night. Was ok, very generic and doubt I'll rewatch - agree LE for this one bit of an overkill. Might have to ping onto ebay when the next £1 offer pops up.

Yeah, one of those films I'd class under 'disposable fun'.

Fancy this set, I mean, SS kick arse. But I'm in no rush.

Are there any caps from the Second Sight edition yet? Would like to compare them before picking it up. The fact that David M handled the compression has me intrigued. He did a phenomenal job with Synapse’s 4K disc of Suspiria.

I own only the Second Sight and compared 2 caps with caps' when I received the disc back then (only 2 because I didn't want to spoil the movie for myself, which I still haven't seen - lagging behind A LOT lately...). Based on what I saw/compared, the Second Sight basically matched the Universal, but with better pq (and I still think the Shout is wrong and much worse). Unfortunately I don't have the caps anymore.

How was the Shout much worse?

I ended up with all three lol. But haven’t had time to compare them.

Grain. The Shout looked ridiculous with #2.

If the screenshots here were taken properly, the blacks on the Shout also seems to have been fudged up in the encoding. Even the black bars are not pure black. I’ll have to compare them to see but given the encoding was done by David M on the Second Sight release (if I remember correctly), I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the best version so far.

I always thought this film was a loose remake of the French film ils (Them). I'd much rather have the French film.
