Hahaha, I am loving this wording. For non-German speakers who are wondering about this: Wicked Vision usually does an audio commentary that they produce by themselves for their releases. Sometimes its with someone from the label (Daniel Perée or Laruent Ohmansiek) that was working on the release or has a special fondness of the movie, and all of the time they invite some well known German movie scientists, (like Dr. Naumann, Dr. Gießen, Prof. Stiglegger and others), who are famous experts in the German movie community, and who elaborate on the historical context the movie was made in.

I can see how international buyers would love to have these with subtitles though. But keep in mind, these labels are rather small, especially compared to the international market; so subtitling everything into English is a huge cost for them, and one that doesn't pay off if there's just a couple of international customers (which is a shame, because some of these commentaries are extremely good and I wished that more people could enjoy them; some of their weaker titles are still in my collection just because I enjoyed the commentary so much that I found it was worth keeping in the collection ).

Without meaning to offend anyone, and especially not Wicked Vision a label that I very much like, but I would argue that you rarely miss out on anything when you can't listen to the audio commentaries from these guys. They have of course lots of knowledge in their fields, and are very qualified to talk and discuss all topics film. But it's tiresome that you find for example Stiglegger on nearly 90% German genre releases in audio commentaries or the booklets. You can't be an expert on everything. So his approach often goes from being scientific and detailed to a more popular scientific approach that speaks to a more general audience. Sometimes even a very wikipedia like approach. This may fit for a Studio release, but not so much for a genre boutique release that mostly aficionados go for. It's like when Kat Ellinger would do 90% of the English speaking output. She's an expert I highly enjoy to listen to, but she approaches only topics where she can go scientific and detailed on, and not just every film in existence.

If you're a German (boutique) label you are of course very much limited in the selection of people that can, and are willing to do, audio commentary in comparison to the English speaking options around the world. But with Wicked Vision for example, I very much like when Daniel or Laurent (label owner/employee) do the audio commentary. They are experts on their own, but I expect a different approach than what the Professor want to offer us, and this approach I can much more enjoy.

Has anyone here got Wicked-Vision's Blu-ray release of Student Bodies? How is the transfer and audio? I can see some listings in the database here (it's available on Amazon.de), but on Wicked-Vision's website, unless it's not listed on there it must be staring me in the face.

Yep, I got my copy a couple of weeks ago. It was actually listed for pre-order on Feb. 23rd., three different covers, plus a funny set (limited to 100 copies) where you could get a horse bookend. But I guess they've completely sold out the "non bookend" quota. I can only find the bookend, which is still combineable with all three cover variants, if that's something you might be interested in? https://www.wicked-shop.com/en/set-h...00-pieces.html

I tried to find reviews for you on German forums, but couldn’t find anything worthwhile. There was only talk about packaging or the movie. From what I understand the master is the same as Olive. Don’t know if they did additional work. There will maybe a Scanavo release after the Mediabook sold out if that helps.

Thank you both for taking the time to help out with my query about Wicked-Vision's Blu-ray release of Student Bodies. There has also been a UK release by 88 Films (don't think that had many extras on it). Prior to asking about the German release, the only other Wicked-Vision title that was on my want list was I'm Gonna Git You Sucka (aka Ghetto Busters).

Have noticed on their website that Prophecy (the John Frankenheimer-directed film) is being released next month (Shout released it in the States, and Eureka in the UK).

Do you have Wicked-Vision's Blu-ray release of the Vincent Price-starring Diary of a Madman?

Have a query about another German Blu-ray release (but of a film released by another German boutique label), following checking out a western that was shown on a UK TV channel this past Saturday.

Generally speaking, their discs are always very good. This is not one of the German labels like Nameless that only exist because of selling overpriced Mediabook packaging. Wicked does boutique work. They put lots of care into their discs. There's not one messed up release that I know of.

From what I read, the Olive master of Student Bodies should be better than the 88 one. And the Wicked Vision release should be the Olive master.

I'm Gonna Git You Sucka, and all the Black Cinema Collection titles, are very recommended. Their latest release is #19, Cooley High, with the recent 4K Criterion master.

Prophecy is not a Wicked Vision release. It's by OFDb Filmworks. Wicked Vision sells/supports some labels in their own shop like Anolis or Subkultur. OFDb translated is Online Filmdatabase. It's a German Filmdatabase that collects information on different releases, cuts and so on. At the same time it's a huge online shop, popular for especially the FSK18 (age rating) stuff. OFDd Filmworks is their own distribution department.

I don't have Diary of a Madman yet, but only read raving reviews.

Thanks for the helpful reply. Some films I do double-dip etc. on, but for space reasons I try to get just the one Blu-ray release that I hope is the definitive version.

I have 88 Films' UK release of Student Bodies but not watched it yet. Don't have any physical media releases of I'm Gonna Git You Sucka and Diary of a Madman. I also might get another film in the Black Cinema Collection, which I vaguely remember having also had a US Blu-ray release, Across 110th Street (have checked the Blu-ray section of the database here, and I can't find a listing for the German release).

I've checked out Cooley High as it rang a bell (have done a post search, thinking I had commented about the film (including it's US Blu-ray release by Criterion), and I hadn't (sometimes the post/thread search function here doesn't work properly though). Shall be interesting to see how the transfer on the German release is (the Blu-ray.com review mentions something about the colour grade being a bit off on the Criterion US release). I'd be interested in getting Cooley High as anything which is filmed and set in Chicago has my interest (love watching the city on screen).

Wicked Vision announced the start of a ITALO CINEMA COLLECTION. With this announcement the first teaser for a title is Hell of the Living Dead: "From us in 4K with blood in bright red and not magenta. For the first time with restored German dub, because it NEEDS IT! Then bonus, bonus, bonus..."

Very early announcement: #3 in the Italo Cinema Collection will be Torso 4K UHD/BD with the recent 4K Arrow Master. 9 hours of bonus material. Release March 22, 2025.

Germany Poltergeist II: The Other Side and Poltergeist III

While checking Wicked-Vision's website for another release of theirs, I spotted in the Pre-order section that they're bringing out in September Blu-ray mediabook releases of Poltergeist II and III.

Note: The above is a part-quoted post.

It's only after seeing a fellow member post about Shout's Blu-ray release of Car Wash, that I've found out Wicked-Vision have done a Blu-ray release themselves.

No, there's not. Their IT works tirelessly on it to resolve the error. This of course hurts them immensely since it's a small shop and they rely on the sales. They couldn't resolve it with just deactivate PayPal and instead only offer bank transfer or credit card payment to bring the shop back online. We just have to be patient. The sale most definitely will continue once it's solved.

Well I got my order in with a credit card only . I don't use paypal .

I would recommend anyone wanting to get in on the Halloween sale to do it Asap.

I really wish they would just add all the titles they want for sale and run it, instead of adding and deleting titles daily for the whole month. I understand it creates traffic and many orders for them, but I often end up ordering nothing, since the titles I'm interested in are not available at the same time. Or titles I really want are available, and titles I would've ordered out of curiosity are then gone.
