I'm more excited about the audio. The DVD mono was weak ass lossy. The Wide-screen LD uncompressed mono was waaayyy better. Edit: Just realized the mono is lossy DD for this release. Damn. Oh well, can't win them all. Last edited by Retroj23; 01-20-2021 at 04:19 AM. |

https://viavision.com.au/shop/the-bad-news-bears-1976/ In the past whenever the press release has said Dolby Digital the final disc has ended up lossless anyway. |

Received my copy today. Looks a little better than the DVD.
Yes there is grain. I also decided to purchase the USA version (Especially for the Jackie Earle Haley interview) |

You should let us know how the USA version looks compared to this Imprint version. If the USA is better, I might buy one and stick the disc inside this one.

I'd be very surprised if it were a newer transfer. I'm pretty sure it will end up being the same, the encoding will definitely be better though.

I'm a little surprised that Via didn't spring for the $70 boxset treatment for this (like they did with Major Dundee, Bob Hope Collection, and Alfie) and throw in the two sequels (perhaps a barebones second disc with just the two films on a BD-50, which would be more than sufficient provided that there are little to no supplements on the disc). The fact that the latter two films are likely unclassified is probably what ultimately put them off.
After doing a quick search, there are HD versions of the latter two films making the rounds on digital/streaming platforms. Perhaps they'll release them at some point via their regular (non-Imprint) label like they did with the Bob Hope DVD collections (which offer far better value for money if people are merely after the films; $100 for 10 films as opposed to $70 for just two). |

![]() Curious about the commentary on the Imprint edition - which the otherwise fine review on here doesn’t discuss. Is it interesting and knowledgeable about the making of the film, worthy of the high price tag? Last edited by benskelly; 03-13-2021 at 11:15 PM. |
