One thing is for sure, it'll be the most accurate translation to date as I'll be giving him a hand if he needs it 😉

Not to my knowledge. HK cut is longer than the International cut, but I guess neither qualify as alternate. There was some footage with short-hair Jackie that didn't make it into the final movie and will (probably) never see the light of day. Pictures exist thought.

Not sure if they will use the same transfer but even still I have no doubt that the 88 release will top the Mediumrare one as it will have Kung fu Bob artwork and hopefully a booklet, choice of ending song (I can’t stress enough how much I want this ) and the same if not more extras.
I'm sure the audio options will be great on this one! Must admit I'm not very fond of the transfer used for the Mediumrare release. Some weird filtering and color-grading going on in there

I hoping for an uncut version of the old HD master shows up one day, but I assume the chances are slim..

Always great to see that 88 keeps the releases coming thought!

L. O. V. E. Looooooove love love love love.

Excellent news! This will be the best ever release I’m sure.

Have to admit I prefer this one to the sequel because I grew up with it.

Funny I just watched the Mediumrare Blu-ray for the first time last weekend after it stood in the shelf for I guess 2 years, because the film is so familiar to me. It's quite possible that the new 88 release might receive a similar treatment from me

It's a shame the HKL DVD (one of their earliest) didn't get a Bey Logan commentary.

Trailer kicked ass

You mean the upscale?

Although it's not as clean, the best-looking transfer to me is the Miramax one (see comparison).

There's nothing added in the export cut (not even a single insert like the export Police Story), but the uncut Asian/Japanese version never used Flight of the Dragon for the ending song.

That was only in the export version.

However, the Japanese version and a certain Dutch VHS's outtakes are different.

I on the other hand am a little glad of that. I've had to retain all the HKL DVD's of those spanking new Jackie Chan blu-rays purely for the BL commentaries.

It would be cool if there was a way to get FS to find and scan the open matte version of Armour of God, that one sure is a rare treat for this release The only version available around is an old UK VHS of this version I believe.

There's actually a lot of transfers of AoG that are open matte. The most recent official example was the original German DVD by Splendid (only the export cut though). Channel 4 aired AoG in open matte. In fact, most analog transfers of Armour of God aren't framed for widescreen.

A featurette discussing the footage shot by Eric Tsang before Jackie's injury would be cool. I don't know if Brandon or Mike can dig up some fresh info for this release, worth an ask ;0)

The old fan favorite practice of making a Cantonese track that has the Cantonese Flight of the Dragon at the end?

Really excited in general for this. Armour of God 1 is iconic and absolutely deserves the 88 Films treatment.

It's probably scanned, but I think the intended ratio is 1:85:1, especially when the open matte version contains stuff not intended for the final audience (lens hood; trees at the end), so I wouldn't want it myself.

As Choroke mentioned, it was on the old German DVD (see comparison).

I asked Fortune Star about the pre-injury footage and rumoured Alan Tam version, but they don't have it.

I agree it is a faulty version, that's for sure But still it would be cool to have it preserved, it's still a good piece of "faulty" history for AoG.

I was actually referring to the open matte version of the Cantonese version, sorry for not being clear about that. I have only come across the UK VHS that has that one, probably other releases also that I don't know of.
