If you’ve never seen Drive I’d say you are in for a treat. It’s a really enjoyable film.

Too cool! I never thought we’d see this on Blu! Wonder if it’ll carry over the older extras? Even if it doesn’t, I can always hang onto my old one. Either way, this is great news.

Great Mark Dacascos movie! I was always surprised he didn't take off during this time. The martial arts are decent. Stephen Wang also directed the Guyver flicks which are fun, guilty pleasures.

When the Ryan Gosling "Drive" home release was announced, I mistook it for this movie and got a little $#!+ over it lol. I am redeemed.

I’m looking forward to this. Hopefully it’s similar to how Shiver and Little Monsters was on price.

This was a terrible movie a buddy and I used to watch all the time back in the day on a vhs dubbed off HBO. It’s been so long I thought sure no one else actually saw this.

Ordered!

Looking forward to picking this one up (Drive) but noticed the RRP is quite expensive. I wonder if there could be a UK release?

Got an early copy Friday, and the film is a revelation. This is easily the most filmic this movie has ever looked... especially when you compare it to the theatrical cut on the same disc, lol. Granted, there are moments where the highlights seem a bit blown out (the quarry fight has several of these moments), but the detail is far superior to any previous release of the film. Then again, as it's a 4K restoration, and the film has only had one sub-par HD transfer for streaming services and everything prior was DVD release, one would hope, lol.

There's still some stray bits of dirt and debris that pop up here and there, but what I've seen so far (haven't had time to do a thorough check), I can't imagine the film looking much better. The extras are all ported from the UK director's cut disc, but considering those have never had an official release here in the US prior to this release (let alone the director's cut itself), that's not a bad thing.

My only nitpick so far is that I would've liked to have seen the theatrical cut reconstructed using the restoration of the director's cut, rather than just using the soft, semi-open-matte 16x9 streaming master as an extra. But that's just my OCD from working on the 88 and Eureka Hong Kong film blu-rays with multiple cuts, lol.

I may try to snag screencaps again later this week, but for some reason my BD-ROM drive was putting up a fight

The site review is up.

The missing subtitle upsets me...

Quote:
The disc has kind of funnily been authored so that pressing the Subtitle button on your remote does actually toggle between an "Off" setting and an "English" setting, but there are no actual subtitles on the disc.
...or perhaps the optional English subs are only for the theatrical cut?

According to the official announcement of the release,

Quote:
· High Definition (1080p) presentation of the Extended Director's Cut in 2.35:1 aspect ratio from a brand new 4K HD scan of the original camera negative.
· Audio: 2.0 Stereo LPCM, 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround
· Audio commentary by director Steve Wang, fight choreographer Koichi Sakamoto and stars Mark Dacascos and Kadeem Hardison
· ''Drive: The Force Behind The Storm'' documentary (SD, 47:42)
· Six Deleted Scenes (SD, 08:42)
· Interview gallery with cast, director and crew including stars Mark Dacascos and Kadeem Hardison, director Steve Wang, Second Unit Director Wyatt Weed and Stunt Coordinator Koichi Sakamoto (SD, 24:30)
· Drive: Theatrical Cut with optional English Subtitles (HD, 1:39:47. 2.0 Stereo, 1.78:1)
· Original Theatrical Trailer
· Reversible Artwork
· Collectible Mini-Poster
* Special Features May Not Be Rated, Closed Captioned Or In High Definition.

Too bad the original 5.1 track is not in lossless quality. The German DVD had the 5.1 track in DTS. So, it has better sound quality than the Blu-ray. The Stereo is just a down mix.

That is such a let down.
I was looking forward to own it but now, I'm not so sure.

It would be nice if someone who owns it could confirm.

What are the chances of a UK equivalent?

Does anyone know if this release is region B compatible?

This transfer looks TASTY. I might have to spend the small fortune to import it.

On the site review, Jeffrey Kauffman's comment regarding subtitles isn't quite correct. The subtitle track on the disc is a real track, but it's for the foreign-language sections only.

Otherwise, I do agree that the lack of proper subtitles is a huge bummer. I wanted to watch this together with my friends for one of our movie nights, but they like to have subtitles for all of our movies, so sadly this flick may not be an option for us right now.

I've tried looking for 3rd-party subtitle tracks on opensubtitles.org, but the only results I get are for the theatrical edition. Not the special edition.

I'm hoping that a community member somewhere will step up to the plate, and create a new subtitle track/SRT file that people can use. If not, I'm almost tempted to make one myself. I've never created a subtitle track from scratch before; seems like something that could maybe be done in a weekend or two?

Watched this for the first time and thought it was decent. It felt like a 90's Jackie Chan film without Jackie Chan. Thought the second half was better and I pretty much laughed at
[Show spoiler]Tracey Walter's death scene. He simply walks into the fight and is shot multiple times in cold blood by the hero
