If you’ve never seen Drive I’d say you are in for a treat. It’s a really enjoyable film.

Great Mark Dacascos movie! I was always surprised he didn't take off during this time. The martial arts are decent. Stephen Wang also directed the Guyver flicks which are fun, guilty pleasures.
When the Ryan Gosling "Drive" home release was announced, I mistook it for this movie and got a little $#!+ over it lol. I am redeemed. |

Blu-ray Samurai

Got an early copy Friday, and the film is a revelation. This is easily the most filmic this movie has ever looked... especially when you compare it to the theatrical cut on the same disc, lol. Granted, there are moments where the highlights seem a bit blown out (the quarry fight has several of these moments), but the detail is far superior to any previous release of the film. Then again, as it's a 4K restoration, and the film has only had one sub-par HD transfer for streaming services and everything prior was DVD release, one would hope, lol.
There's still some stray bits of dirt and debris that pop up here and there, but what I've seen so far (haven't had time to do a thorough check), I can't imagine the film looking much better. The extras are all ported from the UK director's cut disc, but considering those have never had an official release here in the US prior to this release (let alone the director's cut itself), that's not a bad thing. My only nitpick so far is that I would've liked to have seen the theatrical cut reconstructed using the restoration of the director's cut, rather than just using the soft, semi-open-matte 16x9 streaming master as an extra. But that's just my OCD from working on the 88 and Eureka Hong Kong film blu-rays with multiple cuts, lol. I may try to snag screencaps again later this week, but for some reason my BD-ROM drive was putting up a fight ![]() |

I was looking forward to own it but now, I'm not so sure. It would be nice if someone who owns it could confirm. |

On the site review, Jeffrey Kauffman's comment regarding subtitles isn't quite correct. The subtitle track on the disc is a real track, but it's for the foreign-language sections only.
Otherwise, I do agree that the lack of proper subtitles is a huge bummer. I wanted to watch this together with my friends for one of our movie nights, but they like to have subtitles for all of our movies, so sadly this flick may not be an option for us right now. I've tried looking for 3rd-party subtitle tracks on opensubtitles.org, but the only results I get are for the theatrical edition. Not the special edition. I'm hoping that a community member somewhere will step up to the plate, and create a new subtitle track/SRT file that people can use. If not, I'm almost tempted to make one myself. I've never created a subtitle track from scratch before; seems like something that could maybe be done in a weekend or two? |
