That's a great deal even if the quality is iffy. I just every Arrow that I'm considering buying on disc to my queue and using it as a sort of sampler to decide what to buy on disc. for what comes out to basically about $10 for three months, seems great!

Arrow player this August has a pretty phenomenal line up. I’m convinced Criterion Channel + Arrow Player is all I need now…

They keep adding BU titles on here too, I think Toolbox Murders is slated for this month, but now VS’s Vice Academy 1-3?! Fantastic! I don’t need to drop major coin to check it out.

With all due respect Wendell, and I am aware of your qualifications in this area....but history has taught me that it is advances in applications that dictate hardware advances, not the other way around. If those who distribute the files insist on different hardware capabilities, the industry has no choice but to comply. Especially since Apple is a partner of AOM as well as Netflix and Google. Let alone Nvidia and Microsoft as well.

If the hardware was in place and all streamers could switch AV1 tomorrow the only ones that would benefit would be the streamers because of patent license fees could be less. I have read over the H.265 vs AV1 white papers and they preform about the same at any given data rate.

If you really believe the big streamers will render untold millions of devices useless because of codec fees then I have nothing more to say.

No, I simply think your rationale is both biased and without consideration.
Who makes streaming devices?: Roku, Amazon, Apple, Nvidia, Android is switching to Google TV....all the above are members of the AOM except Roku.

Who distributes the movies/TV shows via streaming?: Google, Apple, Amazon, Disney, Comcast, TPG (DirecTV), Microsoft...4 out of the 7 AOM members.

Most all the major electronics manufactures has patents in H.262, H.264, H.265 and H.266 standards. I can provide links if needed. These codec's are used in standards like SMPTE, ASTC 1.0 & 3.0, DVB-T, DVB-S, DVB-S2, ITU, etc.

IMO, AV1 was developed to get better terms from MPEG-LA and AccessAdvance for mobile device, browser and other computer access to online video.

Target Bump!

Highly recommended latest additions: 4 titles from maverick Greek director Nico Mastorakis.
