Visited my closest store this weekend (SE MI). They always seem to have newer titles (obviously depends on when you go), and I had some trade-ins as well as trade credit. Got these:
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Already removed the stickers and cleaned up the cases, but I think these were the prices: -Diablo - $4.99 -News of the World (w/slipcover) - $9.99 -The Park Is Mine - $4.99 -Random Acts of Violence (w/slipcover) - $9.99 -Rawhead Rex (w/slipbox) - $14.99 -Unbroken: 2-Movie Collection (w/slipcover) - $5.99 "Diablo" was free, since they have a continuous "Buy 5, Get 1" deal. |

I did my Chicagoland 7-store route yesterday and came up with more titles than I expected. Some are trade fodder and some are replacing titles without slipcovers, but out of the 14 titles I picked up, 8 were new titles for my collection.
Coco 3D (UK release) with slipcover Conan the Barbarian 3D with paper slipcover Dawn of the Planet of the Apes 3D with embossed slipcover Detective Pikachu 3D (UK release) steelbook with J-card and collectible trading card Escape from Planet Earth 3D with embossed slipcover Final Destination 3D with lenticular slipcover Gods of Egypt 3D with embossed foil slipcover Journey 2 the Mysterious Island 3D with lenticular slipcover Meet the Robinsons 3D Metallica Through the Never 3D The Angry Birds Movie 4K + 3D with paper slipcover (had no idea the 4K relase came with the 3D version) Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas 3D with lenticular slipcover War for the Planet of the Apes 3D with paper slipcover Wrath of the Titans 3D with lenticular slipcover |

I had to go to Indianapolis on Friday for a business meeting, so once it was over I did my loop through the Indianapolis stores, circling back through Terre Haute. However this time I also hit "The Exchange" which is similar to Disc Replay, but a bit higher priced and annoyingly everything is behind glass in cases so you have to ask for staff to pull it out in order to check it. Slows down shopping immensely.
That said, the staff was very friendly and helpful, and they had a few steelbooks that I picked up. The Thor Ragnarok 4K steelbook was very pricey, but joining their rewards club got me $30 off, which made it a bit more palatable... still expensive though. But given that I missed it originally, beggars can't be choosers. This store is located 2 blocks from one of the Disc Replay stores on my route, so it will become a regular stop. This haul: Aquaman 4K (Best Buy steelbook) Avengers, Age of Ultron 3D (steelbook with J-card) Back to the Future Trilogy 4K (steelbook). I wasn't going to get this set, at least not at retail prices, but this was a mint set with unredeemed digital codes for $39. Had to get it. Doctor Strange 3D Cinematic Universe Edition (clear plastic slipcover) Doctor Who - Dark Water/Death in Heaven 3D How to Train Your Dragon 2 3D Mad Max Fury Road 3D (lenticular slipcover) Piranha 3D Spiderman Homecoming 3D Stalingrad 3D (paper slipcover) Static in 3D Suicide Squad 3D (steelbook) Terminator Genisys 3D (embossed slipcover) The Amazing Spider-Man 3D (steelbook) Thor Ragnarok 4K (steelbook) |

Nice! I've been having a blast going on these day trip circuits to all the Disc Replay stores. The progress my 3D Blu-Ray collection has made over the last 5 months due to them is nothing short of amazing. I've gone from about 15 3D titles to almost 250 in that period.
I'll have to take some pictures. |

Just a quick FYI that many Disc Replay stores are having a buy3 get 2 free sale on blu-rays this weekend as a Memorial Day sale.
Stores that I know are participating based upon SMS messages I received: Bloomington Columbus Evansville Grandville Highland All four Indianapolis locations Jackson Kentwood Lafayette Lansing Merrillville Naperville Terre Haute If a store is not on the list, it may be worth a phone call. I just got back from the Bloomington, IL location and they have signs up. Includes 4K titles, not just regular Blu-Ray, which is nice. Their normal "buy 5 get 1 free" deal excludes 4K titles. I picked up Men in Black Trilogy and Suicide Squad 4K steelbooks and a number of 3D titles with lenticular slips as trade fodder. |

It's been about 1.5 months since I did my northern IL route, so I took the day yesterday to hit the 7 stores in northern IL and NW Indiana. It was a scorching hot day in the low 90s, but beautiful... except for a 15-minute deluge in the middle of the day... while I was in a store and didn't notice... and had left my windows cracked... so that was just lovely. I spent 15 minutes with a roll of paper towels trying to mop things up.
I'm always surprised when I go on these trips and I still manage to find either releases or alternative packaging (yes, I'm a bit of an OCD completist) that I've not seen before. I keep thinking I'm about to reach the point where these trips will have diminishing returns and I'll have to resort to eBay and Amazon to import overseas 3D releases, but as long as I still find stuff, I'll keep going... The trip started well with finding a copy of Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs 3D with foil slipcover in resale store right next door to the first Disc Replay in my route... which was good, since I struck out at that store. I was thrilled to find a 4K steelbook of How to Train Your Dragon with original J-card, which I had missed when it originally was released... until I took it out of the clear plastic and the steelbook was scratched AF. I don't mind paying premiums (they had it priced at $49.99) for OOP titles if they are mint, but not for subpar examples. I brought the damage to their attention, but they wouldn't budge on the price, so I passed. At the same location though, they had a mint copy of what I believe is the KimchiDVD release of Independence Day Resurgence 3D... steelbook... in a drop-dead gorgeous embossed glossy slipcase. For $24.99 that seemed reasonable compared to online pricing, so I bit on that. Numerous pickups to get slipcovers I was missing, a couple of other 3D steelbooks, and I was pleased to find a copy of House of Wax 3D (Vincent Price) with the original lenticular slipcover. Also, a couple of Samsung 3D promos that I wasn't aware of. I already had Megamind and the Shrek Collection promos, but found the How to Train Your Dragon and Monsters vs. Aliens promos. Overall a very productive trip. Complete haul: A Monster in Paris 3D with slipcover Ant-Man 3D steelbook Dawn of the Planet of the Apes 3D steelbook Day of the Dead 3D G.I. Joe Retaliation 3D steelbook with J-card Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance 3D with lenticular slipcover House of Wax 3D with lenticular slipcover How to Train Your Dragon 3D Samsung Promo I, Frankenstein 3D with foil slipcover Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs 3D with foil slipcover Independence Day Resurgence 3D KimchiDVD steelbook with embossed glossy slipcase Jonas Brothers The 3D Concert Experience with embossed foil slipcover and 4 pairs of branded cardboard glasses Monsters vs. Aliens 3D Samsung Promo Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3D with lenticular slipcover Turbo 3D with slipcover Wolverine Unleashed Extended Edition 3D with embossed slipcover X-Men Days of Future Past 3D Best-Buy Exclusive "Trask Industries" slipcase Zootopia 3D with lenticular slipcover |

I hit a number of stores in Indianapolis yesterday (uneventful) and 2 stores in Illinois today because some stores are having a Buy-3-Get-1-Free sale on Blu-Ray and 4K Blu-Ray titles for the Independence Day weekend.
Not all stores are participating, so a call to confirm in advance of heading out is recommended. Note to Steelbook collectors: If you collect 4K and/or 3D Blu-Ray steelbooks, be absolutely sure to check any steelbooks you stumble across in the regular Blu-Ray section, as the staff frequently doesn't pay attention to what they are categorizing and pricing. At the 2 different stores I hit today, I encountered 4K steelbooks and a 3D steelbook labeled and priced as regular Blu-Rays, so deals can be had. I found the following steelbooks today: Apollo 13 (4K): $3.99 It Chapter 2 (4K): $7.99 Guardians of the Galaxy (3D): $7.99 |

Went on an impromptu road trip on Friday, hitting the Disc Replay stores in Chicagoland, northwest Indiana, and at the last minute swinging down to hit the store in West Lafayette. I was reluctant to do the last stop as it extended my drive time by 1.5 hours (as it was, I was basically in the car for 14 hours), but it turned out to be worthwhile.
Got a whole bunch of trade fodder, including 5 purchases at West Lafayette. Most notable from a keeper perspective: Reign of Superman 4K steelbook with J-card, which I missed when it was available; Legend of the Guardians, the Owls of Ga'Hoole 3D with lenticular slipcover and A Christmas Carol 3D with lenticular slipcover. Also a number of retailer-specific exclusives: Suicide Squad Extended Cut lenticular digibook (Target exclusive) Thor Ragnarok with gallery book (Target exclusive) Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them with 80-page coloring book (Wal-Mart exclusive) Sin City + Sin City A Dame to Kill For 3D 2-pack (Wal-Mart exclusive). I'd never seen this before. Not my picture, but here's what it looks like. The back panel has some cool art as well. The frame on the copy I found was torn on one side, but the movies themselves were still sealed, so that's a bonus. I think this came out in 2015. |

That guy probably got a quarter of what they're selling it for now. Sure it's easy to trade-in, and DR needs to get their cut to stay open (I do it ALL the time with Blu-rays), but damn do I want to know what they offered for that bundle. I stopped in the local DR yesterday and was surprised to find a minty copy of the 32-blu-ray "DC Universe 10th Anniversary Collection" individually numbered set at IMO a very reasonable price. No J-card, but everything else was there.
For one day Amazon had these for $98.99 in December of 2018, but per camelcamelcamel it's been at $145 or more ever since, and above $180 for the last year and a half. Most vendors have it at $190+ and used copies on eBay are averaging $140+. So $79.99 appeared to be quite the deal. I pounced. |

When I do my hunting I always look for items that aren't readily available from mainstream vendors, or there's a huge price difference that offers flip potential. |

Finally got around to hitting the DR in Davenport, Iowa. Not a bad store, located in the mall. Beware, Google Maps takes you to an airgun shooting spot on the far side of the mall lot. Until I stopped and asked at a local restaurant, I had feared I'd driven 3 hours for nothing. Hit the Peoria, IL and Bloomington, IL stores on the way back home.
Between those 3 stores and several trips to my local store over the past few weeks, I've been able to pick up quite a few 4K steelbooks at prices ranging from $12.99 to $24.99. Some are no longer available at retail. Interstellar Invisible Man Rocketman The Magnificent Seven Bugs Life Monsters University Starship Troopers - Traiters of Mars Predator Raya and the Last Dragon So the pickings have been pretty good at DR as of late... |
