I'm not entirely surprised, but definitely disappointed.
I'm going to assume that being able to redownload previously purchased content will no longer be an option. I know that is speculation, but if the content was still going to be on servers to redownload, then it makes no sense why Sony wouldn't just allow that content to continue to be purchased as well. Well, I've been procrastinating on getting my third PS3 set up and everything downloaded to it. I'll have to get on that soon. I have three of them for this exact reason. I'll have to get some extra HDDs as well. I have big enough hard drives on two of my PS3s to hold everything. I'll need a bigger one in the third system. And my plan is to get some extra hard drives and do a full back up of everything for each one of them so the data can be restored later if need be (i.e. the internal hard drive crashes). |

They better allow us to continue to download games we purchased previously. That's a giant scam if they don't. I paid for those titles. They're in my library. I'm fine with having to hold onto a PS3 to download them, but I own them and should always have access.

Still, another crappy move from Sony. I just learned that the president of Sony Interactive Entertainment doesn't understand why people care about old games. "When we've dabbled with backwards compatibility, I can say it is one of those features that is much requested, but not actually used much. That, and I was at a Gran Turismo event recently where they had PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4 games, and the PS1 and the PS2 games, they looked ancient, like why would anybody play this?" https://www.forbes.com/sites/ollieba...h=22001f163890 They're so out of touch. There's one real issue I can see arising from this, whether they allow us to download purchased games or not, and that's relating to digital only content 'owned' from PS+.
At some ppint the PS4 will cease to get new content on ps+, just like the Vita and PS3 did. Certainly for me, with no intention of getting another new console, at that point, PS+ will become a complete waste of money for me. I don;t get anywehre near enough out of it for what I pay already. 3 or 4 online games I play, and I only use a fraction of the games we get given. But i do play smaller arcade type games like Steredenn, Spelunker, James Pond 2 etc that I got through PS+ a fair bit. SO when this happens, then these games will become completely inacessible. They're digital only. I can't buy them outright, as the PSstore doesn't allow the purchase of anything already 'owned' via PS+, not that I want to buy them again exactly, as I've already more than paid for them with my PS+ subscription already. So there's no way of buying them outright, and that option will be completely removed when the store goes anyway. Only way then to get them back, assuming purchased games can still be downloaded, is to take out an expensive, and otherwise useless PS+ subscription in the future to re-access them. Failing that option, then I'm losing them for good. Not happy about this at all. |

The only way around that otherwise is to make another account entirely and buy them on that one. |

I would love to be wrong about this, but I'm not holding my breath on content being able to be redownloaded going forward. |

That A-hole needs to be fired. Hackers make Sony consoles work better than Sony themselves. |

Like I basically said, the idiots could learn a thing or two from Nintendo. They're the kings of milking their old games. Sony has TONS of classic games throughout it's Playstation history. Best bet right now is jailbreak a PS3 and play PS1-PS3. If you have a certain device, you can even copy the PS1/2 saves from the PS3 to PS1/2 memory cards and play on real PS1/2 hardware or even easily back them up to a PC or whatever easily.

Figured as much but still means anything you want to buy you have to buy it now or never and doing that for 3 systems in such a short time is a pain in the ass. I have PSP, PS3 and Vita content I still want. A lot of it.

That being said, this all seems really odd to me. I would think that the thing taking up most server space would be hosting the games at all (even just for redownloading). How many resources is maintaining the ability to continue making purchases really taking up? Why cut off a revenue stream, even a small one, when there's little downside in keeping it available? |

Exactly. Especially when that revenue can pay for security updates that Sony uses specifically to keep their consoles from being jailbroken/keeping consoles able to keep up with modern security protocols so people can't just download old games off their servers easily. (Since the servers would be set to accommodate older, compromised protocols)

You can jailbreak your consoles and download them by "questionable" means. Don't feel bad about it. You want something and they don't want your money, so whose fault is that? I only support "questionable" ways when that's the only option. Which looks like now, it's the only option. So do that to all this stuff you still want. Never feel bad about someone else's stupidity and fail. If it wasn't for "questionable" means, a lot of games from over the years would be forever gone. "Questionable" means isn't always a bad thing. In most cases it's not. Only is when stuff is fully available and easy to get at a reasonable price. I don't consider it stealing if nobody wants money from it and getting it hurts nobody. Kind of like digital dumpster diving.

I'm glad that we can still download purchased content. With that confrmed, I'm going to be taking a good look though the store to see if theres anything else digital-only I want before it's gone.
PSEye and 3d games mainly. unfortunately the issues relating to PS+ 'owned' stuff will be continually present though. |
