I buy a lot of titles that are of questionable quality (ex. Jess Franco), but I still have a rough time trying to decide on the VS 4K releases. It's like, I don't buy something like "Monster Hunter" or "Uncle Drew", so why ___? I want to support an indie like VS for dabbling in 4K, but I'd prefer it to not be of the "so bad it's good" or "bizarre/oddball premise" variety on my own end. I'm happy for those who do enjoy these, however. They're releasing stuff that others aren't - and in great quality.

It's like they were trying too hard to emulate Baz Luhrmann and Sam Raimi's styles and mash them together, but spent little time on the story and script and actors. Silly, film school grade schlock.

It turns out Six-String Samurai is owned by FilmRise. You can watch it on Amazon Prime.

FilmRise owns the catalog of producers Millennium/Overseas Filmgroup HSX Pictures/Kushner Locke (Palm Pictures were only the US distributor). And ironically, FilmRise is licence friendly and VS has dealt with them for titles such as Necromancer.

Never heard of this movie in my life when Vinegar announced it. Reading about it in the weeks since and watching clips, the film won me over and I ordered it. Gives me sort of a Tank Girl, Hell Comes to Frogtown vibe, but possibly much weirder. At worst I guess it will keep me on track with the VSU collection, as I plan to get them all as long as they don't do too many too fast or the movies start completely sucking.

Not really too concerned with what "Reviewers/Critics" think of films and Mr Orndorf's review here is no exception.
Had this been made in the '80s I think it would receive more nostalgic praise than it currently enjoys but I care not a whit. This is a cute little treasured 'classic' (small C) that in the vhs days had a lot of us entertained. Vin Syn has pulled out all the stops to provide us the best they could with this little gem and I for one am very pleased they did. Ordered in a heartbeat... ![]() |

Definitely, if it came out in 1988 it would be total cult status. I think the movie looks absolutely incredible for something they "shot on weekends." As much as I love Hell Comes to Frogtown, this movie mops the floor with it production wise. I can't find any fault with the visuals, the movie looks like an art exhibit.
