So, it looks like the film actually got an extended release date. Tickets are now on sale for June 5th 2023. I just placed my order for that date which is a Monday, at 7:00 p.m. one night only just was not going to make it. At most the film should at least have a premium run of 30 days plus similar to Knights of the Zodiac. But I'm glad that I was able to get me a ticket for an extended date, Overall.

Just got back from Shin Kamen Rider at AMC. Awesome movie!! It is really well made and it even made me tear up in one scene. I liked this even better than Shin Ulltraman. Everything gelled together perfectly with no slow or talky scenes like there was with Shin Ultraman, and for that matter Shin Godzilla. (I still like Shin Godzilla more because Godzilla is my jam!) The effects and CGI are amazing (save for maybe one or two instances). It has a few comedic touches as well. The filmmakers matched the style of the original henshin series perfectly and I loved it! There were a few in the audience that were liking it a bit too much however, by laughing and reacting at certain scenes a little too enthusiastically. I guess they were "chemically enhanced". This movie is extremely violent which caught me by surprise.
When I entered the theatre like about 15 minutes before showtime there was a black screen with nothing playing. I was expecting a preshow like there was for Shin Ultraman. Then, about 5 minutes before showtime, a Fathom Events countdown started that read 29 minutes! A theatre employee came in saying that this is Fathoms "preshow" timer that takes the place of trailers. I believe that this was wrong and the theatre just started everything late, since Fathom Events usually start right at the printed showtime. The screening had to be a DCP, with no Fathom logo at the end. It looked and sounded fantastic! There was a nice little treat after the end credits! Judging by my theatre and looking at the seating charts of others, this has sold a lot of tickets. Nearly sold out screenings! In fact at Regal they added a second showing tonight and another showing on Monday, June 5th, which was originally supposed to be a one night event. If you can, I strongly recommend that you "Fight!" and "Kick!" your way to the theatre and see it! |

I loved it. So many cool homages to the original show while being its own thing entirely.

We are like half a day away from the Amazon debut so let me suggest watching Kamen Rider Black Sun on the very same platform thereafter: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamen_Rider_Black_Sun
It´s 18+ in basically all regions. A cross between an 80s to 90s gore flick and an Alan Moore comic. A stand-in for Shinzō Abe is the villain, released in the same year he was murdered. The show caused a heavy divide in Japan due to how political it is. Damon Lindelof´s Watchmen "sequel", still a solid show, wishes that it had the balls to get away with half the stuff in Black Sun. The still ongoing Seinen prequel manga prequel to Shin There is no true peace in this world -Shin Kamen Rider SHOCKER SIDE- is another easy recommendation. The origin story of the main villains of the film. Based Tōei for giving us 2 child terrorist protagonists in one year with Black Sun and Shocker side. ![]() The 70s villain Colonel Zol is in the manga and explicitly a Neo Nazi so Anno´s Hongo is still a Nazi hunter in the reboot. Just less directly. |

Saw this about 3 weeks ago. I GET what Kamen Rider is. But it's visuals of what Anno did w/ it that bothered me. It was boring looking w/ how he filmed it. It very much looks like a show from that era and it doesn't work well for it.
I think I would have liked it had it been filmed in a different way. In terms of plot and such, it's a tad flat but it held my interest. I like the ideas of what the action tried to convey but again, the way it was executed in choreography just didn't jive w/ me. Feel like Anno went too hard to admire the past that it just didn't work w/ what modern aspects were integrated. It just felt like a TV show too much and not like a film. The Blu-ray was just announced. I'm very excited, but I'm sad that the 4K UHD is being included only in the very expensive editions, and is being advertised as just a bonus, rather than being the main attraction.
