Got my copy today. Will be watching it tonight. I think it’s been over 20 years since I’ve seen it last.

Really wish you’d tell your impression. Is it at least an improvement over the DVD, or some Mill Creek abomination?

I was very happy with it, definitely an improvement from the dvd.

Not that that would take much…but you never know with Mill Creek.

This just shipped from Deep Discount along with Saving Silverman. Good news that Mill Creek didn't mess it up. I don't think these transfers are that bad or on the level of Like Father, Like Son and The Freshman because there would be more complaining if that was the case.

I really wish there was a recall on both Mill Creek releases of Like Father, Like Son and The Freshman. They should destroy all copies of them and repress them with a proper transfer. They won't though.

The HD master doesn´t look good. I have the amazon prime HD version and the picture quality is not good at all because the master isn´t good.

I think you all will be disappointed with the picture quality.

I don't have a problem with the Skin Deep master. It is "un-remastered" and has speckles/dirt and such, but it also has good detail, color and no DNR. It's the same master that's on the German Blu-Ray. If you are hoping for a 4K restoration that's spotless, it's not for you, but for me, it looks naturally filmic so to speak.

The big problem will be how Mill Creek encodes it. It has the potential to be unwatchable if it's as bad as some of their recent Sony encodings, which are much worse in those instances than the streaming versions of the same master.

Let's hope the person that encodes Skin Deep for Mill Creek did not work on Like Father, Like Son, The Freshman, and Crossroads. As a matter of fact whoever worked on those encodes for Mill Creek if I was them would be fired. It's possible though Sony gave them lousy masters because they are releasing Like Father, Like Son in June themselves. They can only work with what the studio gives them so maybe the encode was messed up to start. Mill Creek has some decent BD's.

With Sheena, The Freshman and Crossroads, every one of them looks markedly better in Sony's 1080p streaming versions -- and they're all the same master. Those screw-ups are entirely on Mill Creek there.

Like Father Like Son was a bad master, I'll give them that -- albeit that too was horribly encoded.

I agree, Mill Creek has done good work on other titles -- including their Morgan Creek discs, the ones I've seen which were encoded fine. I just worry this is the kind of grainy, unmolested transfer Mill Creek's compression/encoding is going to have a problem with.

I just watched this for the first time since 1989. I appreciated it more as an adult, although I still think the ending is a cop-out.

Lots of reshot material there, Ritter's fake glue-on beard from the re-done scenes (very obvious near the end) is all the more glaring in HD too

One of my favorites. I’ll wait for reviews since this is Mill Creek, but I can’t imagine it looking as bad as the DVD does...

DVD was a Day One buy for me a hundred years ago. Regardless of Mill Creek's iffy output, I'm in. And bring on Edwards' 1991 Switch.

The master for Switch is so bad that a French company that had announced its release last year had to cancel all its preorders when they saw the “master” that was provided to them. Wrong aspect ratio, a pervasive red hue, tons of glowing-edges around, well, edges… just unreleasable. Switch needs a new transfer from the film elements.

The center portion is from the master that was deemed unreleasable. (It is also what is on iTunes). The wider sides are from the old dvd, provided just to confirm the aspect ratio was originally wider.

More info about Switch here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=329725

The German Blu-ray for Switch is really bad. I don't recommend anyone buy it till there is a better release. I am keeping my DVD for now. No wonder that France studio passed on putting it out. I am not digging the zoomed in look of the film because I have watched the DVD to many times. Definitely needs a better release and scan.

Ellen Barkin’s performance might be the best that Edwards ever directed, which really says a lot. It is astonishingly brilliant

I really wish they were using the theatrical poster for the cover, instead of that cheesy VHS box art. I had the poster on my wall as a teenager...because I was a teenager.

Agreed, but at least the VHS art beats the hell out of the bizarre fish-in-a-filled-up-condom art on my German import. I'll be happy to take this one off the shelf (as long as the new release isn't somehow worse).
