I know some people are annoyed by the mix of English and Italian on the original cut, but to be honest in my opinion as is the case with most of Argento's Italian productions, it's better to just watch it in Italian entirely. |

I’m not a fan of either cut of Deep Red and find it vastly overrated amongst Giallo fans. However, I much prefer the shorter cut because it does away with most of the lame, out of place attempts at humor and shortens other scenes that I felt dragged in the longer cut. I won’t get this release but I know it is adored by its fans and it’s cool that they’ll have a chance to get it on UHD with HDR.

Yup. I watched the shorter cut once to satisfy my curiosity, and I doubt I'd watch it again. It just felt rushed and I missed the bantz between Hemmings and Nicolodi.

I'm used to the longer cut, since that was actually the very first version I saw. I recall it was the big selling point when the old Anchor Bay DVD was released twenty years ago.

The shorter, international cut is much superior in my eyes.
The majority of the scenes removed are basically comedic bits with Nicolodi that pad her character, a character who never really feels integral to the film in the first place to me. |

These Arte Originale editions are beautiful, but as a US buyer, paying over $50 each is a lot of money. The normal 4K versions will likely go for closer to $33 around release time, but I don't think the artwork is that attractive

I found Hemmings and Nicolodi have good chemistry in the movie. In my mind the comedic and sweet bits are a bit of a homage to the Girl Who Knew Too Much by Mario Bava, according to some the first movie in the genre. It doesn't really add much time to the clock anyway. To remove them just simplifies the characters and dumbs down of the script Dario Argento wrote for this phenomenal movie.
As for the Arte Originale, even if they are more expensive (which I think they shouldn't be, was just Bird that wasn't discounted), from all point of views it's in my opinion the better buy, if you happen to dislike the movie you'll probably make a profit selling it second hand, it will be that rare by then. It's an absolute treat that Arrow are finally giving fans of original art the limited sets they dreamed of. |

Release dates haven't actually been announced yet, but it would appear they're trying to release these in chronological order. They've indicated an FUHD for Aug/Sept, thus the hype that they may have obtained Flies already.

I've been expecting this to get an announcement after both Crystal Plumage and Nine Tails got announced.
Which means one can guess Phenomena will get upgraded as well. |

I'm waiting for the standard 4Ks of BIRD and CAT because I already bought the limited Blu-ray sets, but if this follows the example of the Blu-ray, only the limited edition will have both cuts, so I'll have to spring for this one even though I have the limited Blu-ray set in this case.

First of all Arrow when it will release the movie (100% sure because the biggest part of the Argento films are already available on 4K by Arrow) on 4K definitely will include both versions, just like with Pitch Black and Donnie Darko. Second, hopefully next up on 4K The Thing, Lifeforce, Phenomena, Inferno, Tenebrae, Robocop, An American Werewolf in London, Weird Science, Sixteen Candles, Brazil, Darkman, The Breakfast Club, The Apartment, Dune (1984), The Frighteners, Hollow Man (2000), The Last Starfighter, The Omen (1976), The Fly (1986), The Fly 2 (1989), Re-Animator, Rollerball (1975), Strange Days (1995), Thief (1981), To Live and Die in L.A..
