Lost's fourth season will likely consist of only 8 episodes -- half of the intended 16. But one possibility that could occur is to hold the show completely, not airing any episodes until the 2008 - 2009 season. If the strike continues and no more episodes can be produced this season, Lost executive producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof think that's the way to go (holding the show off for a year).
Could it be possible that what ABC is doing will be good for the writers? Think about it. LOST is right now one of the highest rated and most anticipated series on TV. If it ends in 8 weeks with a huge cliffhanger and the strike has not yet been resolved, viewers will be demanding that the network give in to the writers’ demands to get their show back on the air. It will spark fan emails, phone calls, and petitions to the network reminiscent of back when "Party of Five" was cancelled and then brought back into production. I think ABC is doing themselves a disservice by running only half a season unless they really think they will be able to resolve their differences with the WGA rather quickly. This half-season of LOST might end up being the best thing that has happened for the WGA yet in this strike saga.

Very interesting, Borris. I would agree with you that this would be terrific ammo for the WGA.

Just remember that if they resume production tomorrow, it's 6 weeks before an episode can hit

I find it unfathomable to be a fan of the show and not watch it episode per episode.

I've watched every single episode of LOST on it's original broadcast date... so far... but, after watching the first 6 episodes of Season 3 in the fall of 2006, I thought the show was going to the toilets... then they came back in Winter 2007 with the balance and the show was great again.

I personally don't care to repeat the experience of Season 3... ESPECIALY when the producers of the show have given warnings about this (see original post) as the upcoming break is NOT PART OF THE PLAN (which might potentialy make it even worst then the break in Season 3).

As long as fans are going in with their eyes oppened... I guess that's all that matters.

P.S. The attrocious quality of the CTV simsub in Canada is an additional consideration in my potential decision to wait for the boxset (still undecided... will wait and see if my Sat provider substitutes the ABC feed with the crappy CTV one... and then will make my final decision).

It would be smart of ABC to start airing Lost re-runs once the first 8 are over. In general, primetime TV sucks in the summer. It would give fans their "fix" and let viewers catch up, as well as let new viewers see it from the beginning. Even though I already have seasons 1 & 2 on DVD and 3 on Blu, I'd watch season 2 re-runs broadcast in HD over some dumb reality show any day.
