I'm just stunned at how many people don't get that some people just have no interest in 4K and never will. My 1080p Plasma TV from 2007 still works like new and has an anti-glare screen. No need to upgrade.

Fact is that DVD still outsells 4K and Blu-ray discs combined.
I completely understand that 4K discs have not had a good roll out. The industry thought that they would do so much better than sales have been. Your average person doesn't care about 4K or even 1080p but were in a steelbook forum. I understand not wanting to spend money on a new TV but I guess I figured since collecting steelbooks is such an expensive hobby I figured most collectors who love movies that much would find a way to upgrade. I guess I also assumed most collectors had a region free Blu-ray player as well, mines gotta be close to 10 years old.

I gave my old Pioneer Elite Kuro to my brother and that is the Cadillac of 1080p TV's. It looks great but not better than my new 4K OLED. That 1080p Plasma isn't going to last forever either so I hope your buying 4K + Blu-ray steelbooks because even though you can't use them right now you will be glad you did in a year or two when you get a 4K set. Even if your not interested in 4K the price difference isn't much right now so unless I'm missing something your next TV will be 4K.

You can get a very nice one for around 2K and a flagship top of the line for 3-4.5K depending on if you want a 50-70 inch. They don't even really sell 1080p sets anymore. Then you don't need to worry about what region discs are anymore.

Obviously I own a region free Blu-ray player for all the Blu-rays I own that are not region A. But from now on 95% of new releases are in 4K so worrying about what region things are is over from that sense not to mention all the catalog titles being remastered and released in 4K. I'm really looking forward to see what Snatch and True Romance look and sound like in there upcoming 4K releases.
I don't own one and have no desire or need to get one. I actually have a player as it happened that the type of device I needed happened to be a 4K one.
Also as a lover of older movies I can only imagine they will look even worse on a 4K screen. Maybe other non-upgraders have similar reasons.
I don't need to convert by home video experience to a cinematic one

Actually, for the sentence I've "bolded" in your post above, I can say that the up-scaling and up-converting capabilities of today's players and displays (TV's and projectors), are pretty good, and only when you have a REALLY BAD source would be indeed bad. I've watched the other day (and will continue ) The Orville which was only released as DVD, and, I can say that on my 150" screen (watching from about 3,5-3,6 meters / 11.48-11.81 feet), there's hard to make the distinction that this is a DVD (with a mere resolution of 720 × 576), and this show is FULL SCREEN 16:9 compared with most movies that have black bars on top and bottom at 2.35:1 I think.

on the contrary older movies also look much better on a 4k screen, they actually end up looking a lot more filmic since the much tighter pixel pitch makes the screens look less pixelly and less digital and upscaling helps make them look more natural too, not to mention the new 4k screens often have better blacks than 2k screens did

I watch older film all the time on my 4k OLED and they look much better than on my old 2k LCD.

Hmm…I think I may have thrown away my sticker from the one click? Didn’t see it in the box or envelope with the magnets.
