A new controller for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox One consoles has leaked prior to an official announcement from Microsoft. Despite boasting its own "Design Lab" which allows customers to create their own unique Xbox controllers, Microsoft still releases plenty of gamepads in a traditional manner that can't be purchased at retailers. Now, a new controller of this type seems to be on the precipice of being unveiled quite soon.

Reported at Dealabs by reputable leaker billbil-kun, a new Xbox controller is set to release in short order that Microsoft is calling the "Sky Cipher Special Edition" controller. This model of the Xbox controller is said to be similar to the version that was released in 2021 in tandem with Forza Horizon 5. Specifically, that controller's transparent shell is reportedly going to be featured on this Sky Cipher edition with a blue tint.

Earlier this month, news leaked about a new controller in Xbox's "Cipher" line of transparent designs. While we didn't have any images of the controller, the Ghost Cipher name implied a white controller that allowed users to see the interior, just like the Sky Cipher controller released back in August. Xbox has now officially pulled back the curtain on the design, which will be available on October 8th. The controller has a stunning white exterior with a silver interior, bronze colors on the D-pad and triggers, and Ash Gray grips on the back. The controller will retail for $69.99.

In addition to the new controller, Cipher Series Top Cases have also been revealed for Elite Series 2 controllers created through Xbox Design Lab. Xbox users can design controllers using body options that include Ghost Cipher (white), Candy Cipher (pink), Astral Cipher (purple), Pulse Cipher (red), Surf Cipher (a lighter blue than Sky Cipher), and Velocity Cipher (green).

New pattern available in Xbox Design Lab. Not particularly interesting to me but I do appreciate them adding the special designs to XDL so you personalize it instead of a limited availability special edition controller.

Also like the idea of console wraps and console covers (PS5), but never actually used one. I did change out the Xbox 360 faceplate with the occasional special edition version many moons ago, but I think I've outgrown customizing my console

The new season of Squid Game is set to be released on Netflix later this month, and Xbox is celebrating with a pair of new controllers based on the series. First up is the Pink Guard Instinct Pro Controller. Inspired by the Pink Guards from Squid Game, these sleek controllers feature a transparent pink coloration similar to the recent Cipher controller designs. The middle of the controller also features a look inspired by the Pink Guard’s black mask, with a white circle that surrounds four buttons in the center of the controller. The battery case also features symbols based on Squid Game.

I don't have any custom controllers, but here is my current collection of Xbox One controllers.



Those custom skeleton Elites are cool, but too right for my blood... and I never use my Elite anyway. Too heavy and those under triggers I haven't gotten used to.

Xbox has been plentiful and creative with the controllers it releases starting back during the original Xbox era and now up to the Xbox Series X, giving fans options beyond standard colors. But controllers, especially limited-design ones, only come around so often, so fans typically love seeing what the company comes up with. The first limited-edition controller of the year has officially been announced, however, a new, red take on Xbox’s translucent line of Cipher controllers now up for preorders ahead of its release.
