It’s funny, when I was a kid my parents took my brothers and I to see this in the theater. I never understood why. It didn’t seem like a family film. I used to joke saying “my parents did weird shit like take us to see Blue Chips in the theater.” After rewatching it as an adult I’m like..oh wow this is a solid film haha.

This was one of the "Some music rescored" vhs releases Paramount did back then because of rights issues I'm sure. I never knew what music was changed though. Does anyone know? I saw it in theaters at the time. I was 13. So I don't know what was in it. Probably some music in a party scene maybe? Nothing too important? Nothing jumped out at me on vhs as being different from the theatrical version. But the notice on the box always made me wonder.

At the end of the day... It is a simple tale about the consequences and accepting them over over compromising your beliefs for short term gain.... It's also a warning to not become what you despise... Sounds simple and predictable, but so many still fall into it.

The message exceeds basketball and is more relevant than ever.

The ending doesn't wrap everything in a perfect little bow... But owning up to the consequences of your actions can result in some peace of mind At least.

Maybe we can get some of the other movies Friedkin directed for Paramount as well.

I was really hoping there would be deleted scenes on this.
I'm IN ONE!
It was so disheartening to go to the cast/crew screening on the Paramount lot and watching it without my scene in it--especially after WF came to sit by me at lunch after we shot and raved about how it was his favorite moment in the movie!
Oh, well. My gutsy improv got my girlfriend her SAG card and me a fun day of surprising Nick Nolte.

This release also reminds me that it'd be nice to have other basketball themed movies from the 90s on blu such as Above the Rim and Heaven is a Playground. The latter did not even have a widescreen dvd release whereas Above the Rim at least has an anamorphic dvd and a digital hd option.

Awesome news! I already owned Blue Chips on Amazon Prime, but Blu-ray was worth the double dip. Love this movie. Pre-ordered Necessary Roughness too!

Dont forget about rebound the earl manigult story. There was also a movie in the mid nineties about college basketball. It was a comedy where the boku juice guy was the coach and it was the number 1 team in the nation forced to play in a beat down gym against a bad team. It so happens one of the guys on that bad team is a former high school team mate who always shut down the villain star player in practice. A lady even gets shot through the back board towards the end. Do you remember this movie at all? Edit the movie is called Game Day from 1999 starring Richard Lewis.

I got mine , but it had a noticeable tear in the cover art so I am going to return it and reorder. Must be a junk eco case.

Mine is scheduled to arrive Tues.

I'm not expecting much picture quality wise.

But... Some of these Paramount titles are better than expected.

Like Mousehunt.

Hopefully Harlem Nights, The Weather Man and Bringing Out the Dead gets releases.

"Bringing Out the Dead" for sure. The last real Scorsese film.

I'm actually not the biggest fan of it, but it deserves a release.

It is the last of his 70's gritty type of films.
