I've been reading Marilyn Ann Moss' bio of Walsh, and honestly it's kinda weak as a study of Walsh's work. Doesn't make a strong case for his auteur status, so I'm curious if her doc on him is any better. |

I see nothing to suggest Colorado Territory is in HD. Can anyone confirm?

The only thing I am worried is if the second film is in high-definition. All it says in the description is "Colorado Territory, director Raoul Walsh’s 1949 western remake of High Sierra". This is in contrast, for example, to the description of Killer's Kiss for The Killing release which was "Restored high-definition digital transfer of Stanley Kubrick’s 1955 noir feature Killer’s Kiss".

Criterion doesn't always mention whether a second film included with the main release is in HD, even when they are. For instance Soderbergh's The Underneath is in 1080P, but there's no indication of that on Criterion's King of the Hill Page. Same thing with the inclusion of What Did the Lady Forget? With The Flavor of Green Tea over Rice, and many others.
I don't think Criterion even puts SD versions of films on their BD's that often, so I have to imagine Colorado Territory will be in HD. |

My favorite Bogart film, gotta get this. Don't ask why, I know there are more popular choices but I've never been into what's popular. Something about Roy Earle speaks to me.

While High Sierra itself is a great movie with lots of big names of course, Colorado Territory is the cake here to me. I've watched them both back-to-back multiple times at a local repertory cinema and always loved the remake more. I've never expected to see it on Blu-ray, let alone a Criterion double feature release, this is literally a mind-blowing announcement. What a way to welcome the great Raoul Walsh (finally!) in their collection.

Very excited and a definite buy for me!
With the recent news that Criterion will finally be releasing 4K titles in the future, I'll have to decide which I'll feel the need to upgrade yet again. But no complaints, thanks Criterion! |

One of my all-time favourite feature films! (In my Top 5).
Bogart is my favourite actor and for me this is his very best film, out of the many great films he did (I've seen all that have had a home video release - and maybe a couple of others). It's usualy slightly under-rated, though generally very well regarded. Ida Lupino brilliant in it too and also her best one imo (followed by The Sea Wolf). Another actress in it says: "That sounds like poetry, Roy" - and this is a film which is. Last edited by Harpo Marxist; 07-16-2021 at 02:59 AM. |
