If I'm not mistaken, Kino already said they wouldn't release it because it would mean working with Mann, who shot down their release of The Keep.

I could see StudioCanal releasing it at some point, though.

This would have been THE title for Criterion to select as their inaugural 4K title. You snooze you lose, I guess.

I’m guessing Manhunter is a pretty sure bet, but I’d like to see them license Red Dragon from Universal as well. I wonder if they could even get Hannibal Rising which was never even released on Blu in the US.

Getting Red Dragon would at least complete the Hopkins trilogy.

If anything, that means Criterion (or Arrow) might have Manhunter now.

Essentially this, yeah. Bonus content makes it worthwhile to have both.

“I already bought the Criterion.” “Should I upgrade this if I already have the Criterion?” “Wish I would have known about this before buying the Criterion.” “Guess I’ll have to sell my Criterion now.”

Mann is like Friedkin for me; brilliant filmmaker, but too much of an antagonistic anus at times, which can make it difficult to like him as much as I want to.

The specs look promising on the 4K disc. BD-100 disc with no extra except for a commentary track. Hopefully, they fill it to the brim and push the bitrate above 100 mbps.

Yeah, if you're into extras, both are worth having, especially for the Criterion commentary track.

Mann needs to stop being a hoe and permit a remastered release of The Keep tbh.

It's not like it would be the first time I own / have plans to own both a Criterion BD and another studio's UHD (Dr. Strangelove, Do the Right Thing, Elephant Man, etc.).
