The CGI in The Hobbit stands out brutally in the 4K. Still a sucker for middle earth though .

It's just someone's fan art... the text is taken from a 2020 rumor. Not sure why it got proliferated so widely.

Perhaps you could try listening to the other voices in your head...

The outrageously priced "leather-bound" book set that pissed off the entire fandom and sold so poorly that Amazon eventually listed it at a 70% discount just to move units? ...Yeah that's not happening lol

Don't get me wrong- I have it. It's bloody gorgeous. I house my UHD copies inside it. - but I never would have paid anywhere near what WB was initially asking. They would be nuts to try anything like that again from a packaging standpoint.

I don’t think so at all, I think it looks even better. I was never one to whine about the CG in the trilogy since I thought it all looked great (just my opinion, don’t kill me...), but found the CG blends even better in the 4K transfers, thanks to the color grading as well.

I had the Japanese versions of the blus. I’d settle for those quite honestly too. Guess I should wait to see what if they do anything.

That the Hobbitses have been sharpened to hell and back on the UHDs certainly helps to make it blend as it all looks like over-sharpened shite now!

I purchased the vanilla 4K editions without hesitation last December due largely to the fact that I already own literally every release of these films stretching back to Fellowship's DVD debut nearly two decades ago. The vague promise of unspecified new extras + fancy packaging (again!) was simply not enough reason to hold out this time.

And thank goodness I didn't as my COVID-Christmas LOTR 4K marathon was the most enjoyable viewing experience I've had with these films in years. Flawed as they are the transfers on the UHDs are bar none the best way to watch these films outside of a Dolby Cinema screening.

Only time (and a full specs reveal) will tell if I'll get sucked into buying these movies yet again for what will surely be the final, final time.

Will we finally get the DVD era extras for this or do we still keep those?

They are going to put all the special features in this set. That’s why there wasn’t any on the first 4K set.

I'm almost certain this image is fake and was floating around months ago. I know Dawn of the Discs posted it but where did they get it from?

The Hobbit movies, and a small selection of others which were released in 3D, have effects that I feel somehow work majestically well in 3D, but look a bit out of place in 2D. Don’t know why that ends up being the case, but yeah I’ve been hoping the 4K is at least a step up from the 2D Blu-ray thanks to the new color timing, 3D is probably still going to be my preference for that trilogy though.

If we'll get:

* CGI re-rendered in 4K, and scenes with CGI re-scanned in 4K
* Non-DNR-destroyed
* Same as existing 4K BD otherwise, including HDR improvements

Then I'll buy it. Not likely to happen. So I'll hold out for the new 4K remaster which includes the above hopefully coming sometime.

We've mostly seen the September and October releases so far. Give it another month and they'll fill up the November releases too so our wallets can hurt that month as well. 4K BD is on a roll...

I only got the bare bones LOTR set for my birthday few months ago, the transfers will almost certainly be the same and I've gone off extra features for the most part, so I'll be giving this a miss

Just in time for my birthday! I held off on buying The Hobbit trilogy in case this set finally came along. Interested to see the full list of bonus materials.
