I am stoked for Deadly Friend, but almost more stoked for this finally getting a Blu release--I love this movie. It's underrated and so atmospheric.

I haven't seen this but I'm digging the 80s thing this has going on. I saw a screen shot of a guy In an old school diver outfit and I've always thought they were cool...maybe it's the Scooby-Doo vibes lol. Going to get this.

I just pre-ordered mine. I've had the Warner Archive DVD for some years now—I believe it is a DVD-R though that was MOD, and those are prone to degradation/disc rot, so I'm really happy to own a Blu-ray version. This makes me wonder if we'll possibly get Blu-ray releases of other Warner Archive titles in the future—Night School would be a great fit for Scream Factory (the Warner Archive release is fine, but it has no bonus features), or even more obscure stuff like some of their television movies (i.e. Bad Ronald, Dying Room Only, etc.). I know Warner Archive has put out some of these on Blu-ray, but others, such as Killer Party, have remained on DVD-R only for years.

As far as the blind-buyers go (it seems based on this thread that not many people have seen this movie), do keep in mind that this is not a conventional slasher. It is more a college-set possession movie for the first 2/3 of it, but it launches into slasher mode in the final act. It is a great movie to watch around Halloween time, as the first act takes place in the fall; the latter part of the film though occurs in the spring on April Fool's Day. In any case, it has a great autumn atmosphere, mixed with all the late-'80s fashions and aesthetics. The cast is good, too. There are a few cult figures who pop up in it, namely Paul Bartel as a professor, and horror fans will recognize Sherry Willis-Burch from Final Exam, and Ralph Seymour from Just Before Dawn.

I have it also and it's actually a pretty darn good looking dvd as far as resolution is concerned. As far as the movie, I love it. It does NOT feel like an April Fools movie in the least, though. It feels like a Halloween movie as it was filmed in October and there's a friggn costume party. Also, since the film takes place during Rush Week, which takes place in the fall on every campus I've been to, I have no idea what this movie has to do with April Fools. Lol

It is a weird inconsistency that I'm guessing has to do with a script change that occurred and/or something that is the result of them patching together some story elements in the editing room. The beginning definitely occurs in the fall during rush week, but the party at the end is explicitly stated to be an April Fool's Day party. The strange thing is that the film never really gives the impression that any time has passed between the two events. Also, as you say, it very much looks like the entire thing is happening during the fall, because that is when it was filmed, and, is it least the time in which half of it takes place. In any event, I also consider it a fall-themed movie. The beginning very much looks/feels like it's set either on, or in the days before, Halloween.

I just always assumed the movie took place over Rush Week. I never had the impression of a time gap. Now, I have to watch it again for the 100th time. Though, in my defense, I'm usually close to drunk by the time I put this in the player.

It definitely has a fall atmosphere. To me, it's playful tone is what makes it feel like an April Fools-style movie with the
[Show spoiler]fake out prologue
, pranks, and it's dark humor
[Show spoiler](the downbeat ending even has a bit of a tongue-in-cheek feel with the "Best times" song playing).

I wouldn't mind if someone remade this using the original unaltered script but only if it's a scene by scene remake with a lookalike cast. Nothing modern-looking. Same with Deadly Friend

I've only ever seen this on TV once, and only when I was a kid, so I really only have foggy memories of the ending chase sequence but I'm still all-in for this.

For the longest time I couldn't find the name of this movie, and when I would ask on other movie boards if anyone knew what I was looking for, based on my description of the ending sequence, people would always suggest Night of the Demons as the answer but I knew that wasn't it. I even had one person ask me if I hadn't just dreamed up the movie because he didn't know.

I barely remember the movie because it seemed to take long to get released. During my first year at the Ontario College of Art and design, I happened to have one of the makeup effects guys from that movie in one of my classes. I posted in another thread that he had brought in 100 or more stills taken by the effects crew of not only various stages of the effect being made in their studio, but also the makep effects as they were being filmed on the set. He also has brought me one of the molds made of silicone with a plaster backing of one of the actor's faces that was to have something gory done to his face. I was extremely disappointed to find almost everything had been cut. It's a bad studio or distributor decision that pretty much killed the movie for fans of the genre. Lots of other films were coming out that were quite gory at the time and there was no public outcry against them, so I don't get the reasoning. I'm sure much of the budget went into those effects.

After that semester ended, I took a year off from college to start preproduction on a film I was doing, so I lost touch with him. The last time I saw him was during the premiere of Return of the Living Dead. He was working in a book shop that I popped into, before or after the movie, near the theater.
