One article after another calling for an end to this war... I love it. Pretty soon there will be so many nails in that coffin it won't even be recognizable.

Don't blame Toshiba. They are stuck with an inventory of machines and Duds they won't be able to salvage in 6 months. I would hype the hell out of them too, and sell them at whatever I can get just to clear my warehouses. Buyer beware, and hopefully people are doing ssome homework before heading off to the box stores.

With my "stimulus" package in the mail. (now turn your head and cough) the timing could not be better really. All those people running around with money burning a hole in the pocket, and only one format to go to.

You have to wonder who the heck is Tool-shiba listening too, and why!

Well, I have had my own open letter in my signature line. Sometimes it's the little people who get the ball rolling.

What each one of them needs to realize is that much how Warner still sold HD-DVD during december, milking the format for all it was worth before dropping it, HD-DVD's other players are doing the same thing. Right now, Toshiba's firesales and Universal/Paramount's disk sales are just clearing out inventory and making as much money as can be made before the inevitable end. The HD-DVD fanbase is doing each other a disservice by spreading this euphoria that the format war isn't over.
I think this "it ain't over" thinking will die eventually. When every single article that comes out points to the demise of HD-DVD and calls for Toshiba to give it up (haven't seen one single article that asks Sony to give it up), you gotta wonder how many of these bozos will still say this. I'm sure there are still some "Betamax rules!" people lost in the mountains somewhere.

Over-zealous morons like Ken Graffeo can spit out whatever tripe they want, but he doesn't speak for Toshiba as a corporation, he's HD-DVD PG. It's not as if they're out there with TV advertisements stating they are going to beat Blu-ray--they're just selling their product. (For all we know, the Super Bowl ad will be their concession speech!) I actually haven't seen an HD-DVD TV commercial in WEEKS, personally.

Given the data WIDELY available about Blu's superior sales figures, if any consumer buys into HD-DVD now and thinks it's the format of choice, they have no one to blame but themselves................
You are quite wrong. Toshiba are past masters at deceipt when it comes to HD DVD. Read this and note the bolded parts. Are Toshiba being totally honest or is this deceipt to fool people into thinking HD DVD is performing above its actual market performance?

Quote:
From Olivier Van Wynendaele, European assistant general manager, Consumer Products Division, Toshiba Information Systems.

"We have been hugely successful in expanding the number of consumers owning HD DVD players. UK consumers can now pick-up an HD DVD player for less than £150, around half the cost of other HD formats. Even before pricing reached this level, HD DVD represented more than 60% of the overall standalone high definition market.

"Just as importantly for movie retailers, HD DVD has always enjoyed greater software sales per player than any other HD format. In fact, HD DVD owners have already bought around 3.5 movies each, compared to less than one movie sold per Blu ray device.

"While we're disappointed by Woolworths' decision, it is extremely early to spot which format will eventually win. As the figures I mention show - where consumers have a choice, they choose HD DVD. We're confident that HD DVD's affordability, fantastic choice of movies, great consumer experience and upcoming promotions will help it continue to strengthen its share of the market."
So, we have:

Quote:
We have been hugely successful in expanding the number of consumers owning HD DVD players
This is a blatant LIE. "hugely successful"? Are they taking the piss? Would an innocent consumer be led to believe HD DVD was doing well if they read that lie from the liar (Van Wynendaele)? I think so.

Quote:

Ah, now we get round to including the PS3. Why? In order to DECEIVE people into believing HD DVD is doing better than it really is.

Quote:

We can argue the line about "fantastic choice of movies" but do you think the line "continue to strenthen" is describing a market that is collapsing at an alarming rate? At best a deception. I would call that a lie.

Let's put this garbage about Toshiba being the bastions of truth to the sword. The fact is that Toshiba is a massive corporation that has no problem whatsoever with outright LYING in order to sell off the dregs of their player stock. And with statements like the one above that's exactly what they are doing right now.

For more Toshiba bullshit have a look at Jodi Sally spreading the FUD like it was going out of fashion:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZiWid5gO_E

Stop lying to your customers Toshiba. They deserve better.

That's the funny stuff.
i see that all the time and the spins get more and more pathetic too.

Bill and Dan both wrote great articles that should be passed on to Para, Uni, and Toshiba!

Digital Bits, Woolworth, DVDFile so on. The list will continue to grow. Toshiba this is no longer about saving face it has now become an embarrassment!!.

If you do have any dignity as most Japanese companies do it's time to call it quits and congratulate Sony and the BDA
