I mean, this is almost definitely coming soon from Criterion, but I'm pretty sure the Janus listing is indicating no more and no less than that Blu-ray is a format on which the film can be rented for exhibition.

I do wonder how many on Janus say Blu-ray without at least a rumored BD release. Maybe I'll make a list to see how many if someone doesn't already have one handy. I know many (if not all) of the Abbas Kiarostami films have Blu-ray listings, but I think Criterion at one point considered putting out a complete set, and otherwise still has plans to do releases of them.

There are a few that don’t say blu-ray. Inland Empire comes to mind.

Definitely gonna be a UHD. Criterion ain't sleeping on adding such a thing to the slate, no way.

Criterion never released it on DVD. It was HVE, who were truly awesome, but then they got bought and everything awesome from them ended.

Looking great. Now, the question is how long will we have to wait for a Blu-ray. I can't remember how long it took Come and See to hit Blu-ray after it toured.

Early on Criterion released their titles through Home Vision Ent., so Criterion was involved, it just wasn't branded as such. I believe technically it was released as part of The Classic Collection, which was a venture between HVE, and Janus Films.

Had no idea Criterion and HVE were the same. They released a ton of Toei/Fukasaku titles, but have never released a single Toei title until the Criterion branding. I hope they continue to upgrade HVD titles to Blu-ray especially Devils on the Doorstep, which would be a perfect fit for them.

Crap, I bought the Eureka BD and never even got around to playing the disc except to read the booklet included.

Soooo, I e-mailed Criterion asking them if this might get an early 2022 release and this was the response I got: "Thank you for reaching out! There are no known plans to release CURE presently, but thank you for your suggestion. Sorry I didn’t have better news for you!"

What do you guys think?

That's just their boilerplate response anytime someone asks about a release of their titles. They don't really divulge their release plans to the public.

The thing is, some people might react to that response and say, "Welp, I'm getting the Eureka BD, then!" So it could be counterproductive for them if they end up releasing the movie in a couple months.

That's what I was thinking, but I don't often reach out to them often anymore. I did reply back with links to the poster art/trailer, that Janus is showing off, but not sure if I'll get a follow up response.

Once before I was on this forum Jon M. literally told me Three Outlaw Samurai was coming maybe 6-8 months before it was announced after I bugged him about any Hideo Gosha titles.

I actually did get a follow up response:

"Happy to clarify. I am not aware of plans to release CURE on Blu-ray or DVD at this time, but if we ever do, we'll be sure to make an announcement.

I hope you have a great day! And thank you for your interest."

I'm still betting it will get a release early in 2022, but you never know...

Maybe, but the only people that would be reading that are those that should know that's usually what labels or studios say whenever someone asked about a future release.
