RealD has trailers posted to their Twitter for this and the movie about a Mary Sue who transforms into a red panda.

But neither of them are in 3d?

That is Disney's Turning Red. Possibly also will be in 3D, next March 2022.

Barring any covid-related theater closures, Turning Red will be in 3D. I saw the 3D trailer with Ron's Gone Wrong.

Thanks.

What I meant to post was that neither of the trailers are in 3D. Seems kinda weird that the guys doing the 3D conversions of films are posting 2D trailers.

That must be the new normal... the trailers in 3D should be also a test for the 3D projection so the movie would be shown in the best way.

Anyone else honestly sad because of this film might not be getting an IMAX release? I certainly am, especially since Sword Art Online Progressive is getting one on December 3.

It's getting an IMAX release, right? The aspect ratio (1.85:1) demands an IMAX viewing.

Strangely, it's not. At least as of now, Ghostbusters: Afterlife is occupying IMAX screens for 2 weeks and after that, it appears that Dune is taking back at least some IMAX screens along with Sword Art Online Progressive somehow getting a limited IMAX release as well.

Purchased Encanto 3D tickets today! I was pleasantly surprised to see 3D screenings starting Nov25. Can’t wait.

Most theaters here are just showing it ONCE per day in 3D. Makes no sense to screen the 2D version of any 3D movie on screens equipped for 3D. RealD can't possibly be happy about that, why don't they DO something about it?

With people over on the main movie thread reminding that there is once again hype for a limited edition movie tie-in popcorn bucket, I wonder if RealD could make some buzz & bucks off of making limited edition tie-in 3D glasses.

For the past week and change there has been no 3D showing whatsoever at the Cinemark. Looks like Thanksgiving Eve will end the drought with, yep, 1 showing per day of Encanto. RealD certainly does seem to be taking its business drying up lying down

Rewatching the preview, Encanto really could benefit from the 3D as it has the "uncanny valley" effect going on with the characters, because the CGI for the background objects has gotten much more realistic but the characters themselves are still stylized, making them stand out in contrast (and IMO, look like dolls).

Looks like just one theater in NYC is showing this in 3D. I suppose better than Raya which had zero 3D showings here (opening the same day theaters did could have limited things for sure), but so limited that I might be basically forced to seeing it in 2D.

In general 3D showings have been very limited since the pandemic, with I think Boss Baby 2 being the only other animated movie to get any 3D showings. Though Eternals had more 3D showings than most and actually had 3D showings on its second weekend, whereas they usually drop them after the first week (still many theaters were 2D only).

It's been ages since they made tie-in 3D glasses for any movie - IIRC it could have been TFA. Pretty sure they didn't bother with the last SW movie, for that matter.

So they're more than likely not going to do that again any time soon.

Watched Encanto 3D last night in auditorium #7 at our local theatre. I mention aud #7 because it has a history of dialing down the 3D a bit. For example, 3 weeks ago we watched Shang-Chi in the very next aud #6 and the 3D was gorgeous. The next night I went to Shang-Chi in aud #7 and the 3D had very little neg parallax. I ended up leaving before the finale and sneaked into aud #6 to watch the last hour.
Anyhow, having said all that, we enjoyed the movie and the 3D but suspect Encanto’s 3D is probably stronger than what we witnessed. It seemed to be a typical Disney presentation(maybe similar to the 3D in onward?), good but no wow moments.

The highlight of the night was a pleasant surprise. A 3D trailer and a Disney 3D short called, Far from the Tree played before the movie! The 3D trailer was Turning Red. I totally embarrassed my wife by applauding after the 3D trailer

Only trailer number one is in 3D, they stopped doing follow ups in 3D for awhile now.

You have no idea what you're saying there, 3D stand no chance competing against a 2d flat in number of tickets sold specially in kids movies during its theatrical run, it is a no brainer. RealD has no say on this what so ever, they could advertise and ask us to do a push to have a prime time slot like they did with Ready Player One a couple of years ago, yes but not with a kids movie. For you to have an idea Disney doesn't even request a prime slot for their 3D prints unlike the other formats like IMAX, Dolby or even 4DX and Dbox.

"Stand no chance"? "No brainer"? Seems like it should be the other way around- why wouldn't kids like 3D? Makes no sense to run 2D on a 3D-equipped screen. If people didn't want to pay extra for IMAX would they just make the screen smaller and charge regular price?

Yet kids and parents alike flock to the 3D attractions at theme parks, and have for decades?

4DX is by definition in 3D. "4DX" without the 3D is missing a dimension, confusingly-but-amusingly turning it into "3DX"

4DX without the 3D is more like 2DX as far as I am concerned.

Anyway, see Encanto in 3D theatrically if you can because it's pretty much guaranteed not to get a 3D Blu-ray.
