A bit surprised given Johnny Depp's current reputation in the industry, but if there's money to be made, Disney is all over it.
I don't see this using the same master as the D+ version, that one always looked like a placeholder for when they finally got around to doing a proper 4K master. |

Speaking of the BDs, it's weird that Disney only included the commentaries and the monstrous 6.9 mbps LPCM tracks on the US editions.
Given their track record with Atmos, I would not be surprised if the old BD ends up having the better audio. |

As for the film, it was finished on 2K according to the database of internet movies and so I'd caution everyone to temper their expectations. Expect the usual slew of "why didn't it get a new 4K DI, Disnee can afford it!" videos from YouTube pillocks. |

Reading the tea leaves...given this already had "assets" finished gotta wonder if it was quickly slotted to utilize capacity originally targeted for Heat. If so, it's bittersweet...but I'll take it.
Hope they make their way through the series...and move on to the Nat'l Treasure and Die Hard series. |

I want to believe the reason they've taken this long is because they actually put some extra effort into them. It's not like they've held off for the anniversary or a new one being in Theaters or anything. |

I always thought it was strange that this title did not get released in 4K first. Why was Dead Men Tell No Tails done in 4 K before this title?

This was my first blu-ray disc back in 2007, and I remember being absolutely blown away by it, watching on my old 32" Vizio.
Still looks good to me, tbh, as does #2 and #3, but I look forward to seeing how the 4K improves. |

Because it was a new movie in 2017 and Disnee were only releasing new movies onto UHD at that time rather than catalogue product. Same reason why Cars 3 was released on UHD before the other two.

I love how the HD blurays look, an excellent end of 35mm era film transfer, contrasty, colorful, with plenty of grain, I really hope the UHD will respect the original and only improve upon it.
