Default Harry Wild (aka Harry Wild Investigates)

I won't say this is a UK premiere, but it may be a UK TV premiere. Starting on Channel Five next Saturday night (25th February) at 8 pm - 9 pm is new detective drama series Harry Wild (billed in the Sky TV listings as Harry Wild Investigates), starring Jane Seymour.

I need to double-check, but the first series has had a DVD release in at least one country. It has also been shown on Acorn tv.

Source of the information in the first paragraph of this post: Sky TV listings.

United Kingdom Dalgliesh: Series 2

No date stated, just (I think) "Coming Soon".
Following on from the above, quoted post, checked EpGuides earlier for Dalgliesh to see if there was an update, as a few weeks ago after doing a web search for news of the second series, I saw something among the search results which suggested it will start in April in the States.

Based on how long after each episode of Series 1 premiered in the States (on Acorn tv), seeing the airdates put up recently on EpGuides, Channel Five should start the premiere UK TV airing in late April. Each of the three two-part adaptations will premiere on Acorn tv in the States on Monday 24th April, Monday 1st May and Monday 8th May respectively.

I think the first series of Dalgliesh was released on DVD in the UK by Acorn Media. It had a German DVD release, but I don't know by which boutique label. Acorn Media did release one or two series on Blu-ray in the UK, but that seems a long time ago. I'm sure Acorn have had some involvement in the production of Dalgliesh. Just wish someone else who would release the series on Blu-ray had the physical media rights in the UK, as when I saw Series 1 on Channel Five HD, it looked very good indeed.

Following on from this part of the above, quoted post, during the end credits of last night's final episode of the new, fifth series of Unforgotten, the announcer said the show will be coming back for a sixth series.

I thought the last episode of the current series came to a satisfying end, even if it was a bit confusing at times.

Channel 5 on Sunday evening showed a 90minute programme with Dan Snow detailing the history of the rediscovery of Pompeii from the initial well discovery at Herculaneum to modern day (including an interesting segment on the Allied bombs which landed there in 1943).

During the advert breaks for the show there was a trailer for series 2 of Dalgleish which was trailed as "coming soon". Although there was no date shown, this trailer was shown more than once during the programme, which in itself suggested to me that the date might not be far off.

The first series was excellent, so I am looking forward to this greatly.

It was probably the same promo trailer shown during one of the ad breaks during tonight's new edition of Springtime on the Farm (although I only saw it very briefly as I fast-forwarded through the ad breaks (). Was there an actress in the promo trailer who looks like the lead actress in the Canadian series Orphan Black?

Dalgliesh would look lovely on Blu-ray, but Acorn have the physical media rights I think. And I agree with what you say Cutback, I wasn't disappointed by any of the three two-part adaptations in the first series. Loved the use of darkness and light in some of the on-location exterior night-time scenes for example. And Bernie Carvel was impressive with his acting range.

I know that two series were ordered (Series 2 and 3), but not if they were being filmed back-to-back.

Thanks for posting this update/indicator of when the second series could be starting on Channel Five.

cutback, have you watched the first two-parter of the new series of Dalgliesh? I've been slacking a bit, not having watched them yet.

United Kingdom Dalgliesh

While checking Amazon UK for a DVD release of the first series of the Nicola Walker-starring Annika, spotted a DVD-only listing of Dalgliesh's second series, which finished last Friday night on Channel 5. It was released this past Monday, which makes sense (UK physical media releases of TV series happening the Monday after the series/season has recently finished).

Like with the first series, Dalgliesh's second series has been released on DVD by Acorn (if a German release happens, it will likely be DVD-only again as well).

Likely way too early to say, but any word on when the third series will air (if it has gone into production yet)?

Default The Brokenwood Mysteries (New Zealand detective drama series)

A new series (the ninth) of New Zealand detective drama series The Brokenwood Mysteries (apparently a bit like Midsomer Murders) premieres on Drama next Monday night (24th July) at 8 pm - 10 pm.

Source: Sky TV listings and TV & Satellite Week (Saturday 22nd to Friday 28th July, 2023).

I remember watching the very first episode or two of The Brokenwood Mysteries some time ago and not being able to get into the show. Over time I have read a few times that the show has been described as being similar to Midsomer Murders.

United Kingdom New series airing on Alibi, BBC One and Drama

Had meant to make this post sooner:

Starting on BBC One a week on Friday (15th March) is a third series of Irish detective drama series Hope Street (previously shown on BBC Northern Ireland), airing at 1.45 pm - 2.30 pm. Fifteen episodes in total in this series/season.

Starting on Drama a week on Thursday (14th March) at 9 pm - 10.05 pm is detective drama series Whitstable Pearl (previously shown on Acorn TV). Six episodes in total, which are available/will be available on UKTV Play.

And starting on Alibi tonight (Tuesday 5th March) at 9 pm - 10 pm was a South African detective drama series/mini-series about a real-life person (Micki Pistorius) who worked on crime cases, called Catch Me a Killer. Ten episodes in total (I checked the Catch up TV section on Sky TV earlier, and all ten episodes are available on there).

Default Detective series High Country and Hinterland

Couldn't select a flag icon for this post as one series is from Wales and the other is from Australia (didn't want to make two separate posts, preferring instead to combine the two posts together).

Starting on BBC One this coming Saturday night (13th July) with a double bill is Australian crime drama series High Country. Eight episodes in total, with the first two episodes airing at 9.10 pm - 10 pm and 10.20 pm - 11.05 pm (the news airing inbetween). All eight episodes will be/are available on the BBC iPlayer.

Then on BBC Four a week today (Wednesday 17th July):

10 pm - 10.20 pm: Richard Harrington Remembers... Hinterland
10.20 pm - 11.55 pm: the first episode of Hinterland.

Source: Sky TV listings and TV & Satellite Week (Saturday 13th to Friday 19th July, 2024).

Comment: The whole of the series Hinterland was sadly not completed on Blu-ray in Germany.
