I'm not expecting this to have English subs, but I am keen to read reports on the disc once someone has it.

My expectations of the 3D are fairly low, but I hope the film is fun. I have it pre-ordered. It's delayed another week.

Having an Oppo is becoming a necessity for a modern 3D fan what with all these limited releases with no subs.

The Panasonic UB820/9000 can also play back external subtitles from USB with jailbreak firmware, but unfortunately nobody has confirmed if this works in 3D mode despite me asking several times in the Panny thread. I would get the firmware myself to try it, but that would be an expensive gesture for everyone here when I already have a region free mod for my Oppo.

The oppo allows you to use some sort of external subs? I have an oppo and a couple discs that aren’t in English that I could use this for!

Yes, as long as it’s an Oppo 103/5 or 203/5. You have to put the subtitles in a folder named sub on the top level of the USB, with the subs renamed to sub.srt. Then it’ll show up as ‘other’ in the list of subtitles options. Works a treat for all the Japanese marvel movies that don’t have subs for foreign parts only!

The Panasonic external sub's are horrificly ugly and unusable. I've not tried on 3d, but they were intolerable on a blu ray...

You would be doing everyone on the forums a great service if you would be willing to pop in a 3D Blu-ray with external subs (Shang Chi is a good option if you have it) and see if it works, and maybe get pictures to show what it looks like. For some people I’m sure they’d prefer ugly subtitles to no subtitles at all. I’ve seen a lot of people posting in these forums who want to load external subtitles and have Panasonic 4K players. Could be a godsend for a lot of people.

Unless I’m wrong nobody has confirmed whether or not a Panasonic UB820/9000 will play external subs in 3D with the modified firmware, and seeming as it’s very expensive and a pain to set up, I was hoping to catch the only person who could answer that question in the only thread they had mentioned it. Fingers crossed they will report back and post it in that thread, although I’m sure the Panasonic owners here wouldn’t mind where they posted it if they got an answer lol
