Has anyone been able to check the file size for Spencer? I’m curious how it compares to that for Pig.

Answering my own question, Mass has a DTS-HD MA 5.1 track, so hopefully other Bleecker Street titles do, as well:

Here's a scan I found online, although someone who has the disc should check it to be sure it's accurate:

Social media reaction to the Spencer Blu-ray: https://twitter.com/jonathanlack/sta...146958339?s=21

Oof, sad to report the SPENCER Blu-ray is a disaster. So poorly compressed and encoded it looks like it was poorly captured off cable. This is the worst presentation of a new film on home video I’ve seen in a long time. So inept it should honestly be recalled.

This was shot on 16mm so it’s very grainy, and the compression on this disc is so out of whack it crushes it all into noise and artifacts, especially in darker scenes (blacks are uniformly crushed and noisy). The colors are ok although this is a movie that begs for HDR.

This film was finished as a 4K DI so there’s no reason there shouldn’t have been a 4K UHD release. Luckily digital retailers DO have it in 4K HDR. I’ll be returning the BD and buying that instead - hopefully it does the movie justice.

I mean it really takes a special kind of technical ineptitude to take a source this beautifully, richly filmic and encode it so bad that the grain looks like rough digital noise from a mid 2000s camcorder. They shouldn’t be selling this.

Even the subtitles are ****ed up. We’ve got them on cuz the folks are a touch hard of hearing and they’re formatted weird, frequently breaking into 3 or 4 lines when they’re clearly supposed to be 1 or 2. This whole disc screams “half-assed rush job”.

Unfortunately, the criticisms are arriving too late to save Titane…was hoping Pig was a one time mistake, but apparently terrible encodes are Decal’s house style.

That’s a maybe, Canadian distributors like Elevation or eOne half the time just snakes much of the video file contents from the American counterparts.

Such a shame. Titane and Spencer were two of my favorite theatrical experiences during the past year.

I really hope the box set in March is a better situation but deep down I know it won’t be.

I emailed Decal on the off chance it makes any difference. Spencer was one of my favorite films of 2021 and had been one of my most anticipated upcoming Blu-ray releases.

Bleecker Street film Sundown (2021) will be getting a BD release on May 17th. Decal will also be releasing a partner title: Kicking Blood: A Vampire Love Story on the same day.

Not that I'm aware of. I found it at importCD's. No cover art or details posted there yet either.

Have Decal Blu-rays been sold in stores much? I'm going to a Barnes & Noble/Best Buy neighborhood tomorrow, and I'm hoping Flee will be in one or both of them.

I’ve seen Spencer in stores. Not sure about the others. If you want to know for sure, Barnes & Noble has a website that you can look discs up on and check the zip code you’ll be in to see if it’s available in store.

Sure. I didn't think that would be possible until tomorrow, but the Barnes site is showing it as in stock.

Pig and The Last Son are sold @ BestBuy stores. And I believe I have seen them at the Walmartz too.

Anyone who owns the releases of Last Son, Together, I'm Your Man, or Mass able to comment on the picture quality of the discs? Do any of them actually look good, similar to Titane? Or do they look like poorly compressed messes similar to Pig and Spencer? Still no comments on these as far as I can tell.

If it helps, The Loneliest Whale, another Decal/Neon/Bleeker Street release that followed Pig, uses 17.45 gb on disc, and looked... Uh, fine. It's a documentary, so, it's not necessarily supposed to look spectacular. Sorry I couldn't help more, but, I hope this is something! They at least used more space than with Pig, and it may suggest they're figuring this out a bit more.

(Though, it... Uses the "NTSC Region 1 DVD" symbol on the blu-ray disc, so, maybe not, lol)
