The 1994 remake works on its own merits and and it succeeds. It never tries to replace or surpass the original. It's one of the few remakes done right.

11/17/21: Die Hard II: Die Harder (1990) - As timeless as the first.

11/18/21: Rambo: First Blood (1982) - Another recommendation from a previous thread which pointed out that the events in this film do in fact take place at Christmas time. The few small Christmas trees in the Police Station and the decor of the building that got blown to bits are a couple of subtle hints. It's deeper and darker than the Die Hards but still makes a good addition to the annual must watch list.

11/19/21: Ghostbusters II (1989) 1/2 - Rewatch. While there are some genuinely funny moments it's just not as engaging as the first film.

11/20/21: Santa Claus Is Coming To Town (1970) - A cheery Santa Claus origin story that incidentally "explains" how many of the things we take for granted became associated with the season. The musical performances are what set this one apart from the rest of the Rankin-Bass specials in my opinion.

I always look forward to this thread and will be very busy in December so I have to start now to be able to see all my favorites and hit 25. Thank you for starting the thread and Happy Holidays to all.

1. The Nightmare Before Christmas

This film is always my bridge from holiday to holiday as my last watch for Halloween movies and my first for Christmas and holiday movies. I love the fun characters and cool gothic atmosphere that only Tim Burton can bring. I'm not a big fan of musicals but I always enjoy this one.

11/21/21: Home Alone (1990)

11/22/21: Home Alone 2: Lost In New York (1992)

Daniel Stern's slapstick in both movies is priceless and always has me rolling with laughter no matter how many times I've seen it.

Gremlins, which I saw in theaters back in the 80s as a kid, is my new Christmas Holiday special to watch each year before Christmas, in addition to many of the classics.
The whole Christmas snow, decorations, holiday store shopping with Gizmo in the race car, gingerbread cookies, Gremlins being ground up in the drink mixer.

2. A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving

All the kids are having Thanksgiving dinner which for some reason is being prepared by Snoopy. He comes up with toast, popcorn, pretzels and jelly beans. This also features Lucy tricking Charlie Brown into attempting to kick the football and then pulling the ball at the last moment causing Charlie to fall. I don't remember seeing this growing up so very cool to have it included in the Blu holiday set.

The Chronicles of Narnia. I know, the movie isnt great but its good, IMO and works for a Christmas film. Then, the usual: Die Hard, Planes/Trains, etc, etc.

I liked the story. But I think it needs a rewatch. The pacing was a little slow and the sound seemed to be quiet in places. Hence two less Santas.
