This is welcome news, a brilliant film and a fine performance by Bill Paxton. Finally coming to Blu-Ray. Day one purchase for me and I will pay the extra postage costs to get it here in the U.K quicker. Let’s hope it comes with the Directors Commentary from the dvd and some new interviews with say The Director Carl Franklin and Billy Bob Thornton.

As per the Insider, this release has been cancelled. They say it may be released by another label, or by the studio themselves.

Hmm, I smell Criterion (no evidence, I'm just guessing, based on their recent releases like DEEP COVER, LOVE & BASKETBALL, MENACE II SOCIETY, LOVE JONES, etc), or Indicator (who released the director's DEVIL IN A BLUE DRESS last year in the UK, started business in the US, and has always had a good relationship with Sony).

Seems likely, especially after they allowed Kino to grab so many UHD rights to titles they just released on Blu-ray. Part of their strategic shift. Maybe they can let their rights lapse to all those Japanese films they hold so Kino can grab those too

There's no sign Indicator has a deal with Sony in the US. As of right now, I don't think any other label has acquired it,which is why they say Sony may even release it themselves. Perhaps Kino were the ones that turned it down based on the quality of the master, or to opt for a different film instead, we'll have to wait to see if they elaborate.

This is really terrible news, unless… it’s going to be released with a better master and extensive extras elsewhere. It’s a great film and deserves all the bells & whistles.

On Vudu it's available and listed from Sony Pictures.

Yes they got one in November or so of last year (2021).

OP has been updated, and presumably this will still come out somewhere, sometime. I appreciate these anchor threads because without them sometimes you can't find any info here. At least there's still a discussion.
