Sony has the EVO Panel, so no guessing work here. Out of Box picture accuracy will always be in Sony’s favour however it’s very easy to make the C1 look close by just setting the white balance to Warm 50 & using Cinema (For HDR) & FilmmakerMode (For SDR) without need for calibration. If you plan to game more than watch, I’d go for the C1. If opposite, go for A80J. I don’t regret getting the C1 over the A80J. It’s ahead of Sony for HDMI 2.1 features & LG has had 3 years of TVs now that support all features without fail. Mediatek chipset in the A80J will likely hold Sony back for proper VRR, ALLM & the absence of HGiG on a Sony is just baffling considering they make PS5 & are on the HGiG forum where as LG isn’t yet they support it. lol If you don’t care about gaming or you “rarely” game, I personally would go for the A80J. Why? Do you game a lot? That's the only reason to go for the LG, as I believe it has VRR right now, whereas the Sony will get it eventually in a firmware update. And I think the LG has slightly better input lag, but aside from that, the Sony smokes the LG in every other regard. If you mostly watch film and television, the A80J is unbeatable at this price range.

It's impossible to compare the two in a brightly lit store watching a prepared demo. Have you compared the two. From reviews I've read and seen on YouTube, both sets are very close. I'm not sure my 50 year old eyes would be able to see a difference. |

Sony's XR processor is superior and I trust Sony's build quality over LG. Like, no contest. And the Sony is better for film and television. I mean, they are pretty close, but I would and did chose Sony. |

But I might not have a choice anyway. Right now Costco is out of the Sony and the sale ends in a day or two. They have the LG and that sale continues until 12/12. The reality is that I don't think I'd be disappointed in either. And the only way one could likely see a difference in PQ is with the two screens side by side. |

I was just at Costco and they have both the 65" C1 and the A80JC. Same price - $1,799.
I almost made a terrible mistake. I walked down an aisle and there was the LG for only $1,400. Sale ends today. And that's with the 5 year extended warranty. I was going to buy it. In fact, we had it on the cart and were heading to the register, when I realized it was the A1 and not the C1. So back it went. I'm just glad I realized it then and not at home after I set it up. Since my Costo, a mile from my house, has both, for the same price, I'm now leaning toward the Sony. Decisions, decisions . . . |

My mom was looking for a new tv and my sister just bought a Sony 65” 4K set, and loved the picture. I too have a Sony 55” 4K set from 3 years back. So we went to Costco and took a look and didn’t mind the picture, until she saw the LG C1 55” and was in awe of the picture. So she sent me out yesterday on Black Friday and I came home with the 55” C1 and now I’m jealous. I now want one for my Series X and PS5.

I'm definitely leaning toward the Sony now. Does anyone have proper picture settings for the Sony? This screen will be in the basement man cave, with very little natural light. And I usually only use the TV at night, with the lights out. So it's almost always black. The lights are always out for movies. I keep the lights on for sports and TV shows.

https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/so...-oled/settings Be aware, in a dark room, the picture will be much brighter than your plasma, especially with a 4K HDR film. Look into some bias lighting if you get any eye strain. I recommend Medialight. They're professional bias light. I put a 1m strip along the back of the unit and it works perfectly. https://www.biaslighting.com/product...-bias-lighting |

Well, I went back and bought the A80CJ, which is the A80J sold at Costco. It came with a free 5 year warranty. I'll probably set it up tomorrow. They have a 90 day return policy, so if it doesn't live up to expectations back it goes.
Thanks for all the advise. ![]() |
