Season 4 did still have some good episodes like Mad Love, Old Wounds, Legends of Dark Knight and a few more. Plus they wanted to fit in with Superman TAS and Superman TAS is still a great show. Penguin looked more like a human than the Devito freak in season 4 as it was the original design before WB forced Timm to make Penguin look like Devito.

It also got away with more stuff Fox couldn't do with on censorship despite Fox did got away with things.

Been a Batman fan since 87 with SuperFriends reruns at age 6 and was 8 seeing the 1989 movie 4 times in theaters even collecting the comics and graphic novels since 89. I recalled back in 1990 in comicscene magazine and starlog that WB announced doing an animated series in 1992 along with Batman Returns, i couldn't wait.

As in various magazines from 1991 to early 1992, i couldn't wait as it was one of my most awaited shows and i was 11 when the show debuted on Fox as a saturday morning sneak preview 2 part episode and on some sunday nights then afternoons as i dug it and been my favorite animated show since. I even saw the WB seasons as a teen.

Inspired by the Fleschier cartoons of Superman (in seasons 1 and 2 then anime in season 3) and Tim Burton's movies with the comics, this series was groundbreaking bringing in all ages from kids, teens and adults alike as it broke new ground showing that a superhero animated show can be serious. It paved the way for Gargoyles to Spawn.

How many of you remembered when it debuted?
I'd walk home from school (5th-6th grade), grab a P&J, and enjoy BTAS for a half-hour five days a week. The best non-comic version of the character so far.

There is such a gulf in animation quality between Mask of the Phantasm and the newer Batman Hush. Just goes to show that newer is not necessarily better

I don't remember when I first heard of this show, but I was very young, maybe 13 or 14. I'd seen the original 1989 film, but didn't like the 1992 sequel because it was too twisted and carnal. (By contrast, Batman Forever is one of my fave films about the character.)

Anyway, getting back to the topic - I enjoyed most episodes of this show, and still watch them on occasion. I haven't bought the Blu-Ray boxset yet, but I do plan to.

Will always be definitive for me. Right time, right place...Conroy, Hamill. My favorite character, never rendered better.
