I just picked up the Sentai filmworks legend trilogy on a whim, and it seems like the surround channels are reversed on the English dub of the first one. I didn't check the Japanese OG audio. Also don't have another copy from another label is anyone able to verify

Oh hey, this thread has been bumped.
So Crunchyroll got MF Ghost and it will be premiering in October. Will they continue to ignore Fifth & Final Stage is the question now. |

I'm still waiting for a complete Bluray Set of Stage 1-4 + Stage 5 and Final.
So lame how we are not getting much. At this rate, there is a higher chance that Discotek will come in and take the Tokyo Pop Dub and remaster that version and release on bluray before Funimation or Sentai do anything here with there licenses.... |

Crunchyroll would have to lose the license for Discotek to pick it up, and that doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon (if ever) given that the parts of the franchise that they have the license to got added to CR last year.

In addition to Fifth & Final Stage, there's still the recap OVAs along with Extra Stage 2.
If Funimation and Sentai don't want them, those should go somewhere else. |

Just finished the first episode of MF Ghost, and. . . . well, I can't really judge. Initial D to me, is all about drifting to awesome eurobeat and we don't really get anything like that here. It's all set up and introducing the characters, the interpersonal dynamic and the world, and very little actual racing.
So unless the series abruptly faceplants here in the next couple of episodes, I'll call this a "wait and see". Hopefully it delivers the goods here next week. |

So, watched the first three episodes - the first is all about the setup, 2nd is the time trial, and 3rd is the end of the time trial and more character building stuff. In short, exactly the trajectory that you would expect from Initial D, but with better animation.
The Crunchyroll platform sucks. Halfway through the episode, I keep getting logged out and told "You should subscribe to premium!" despite the fact that this is *right* after I subscribed to premium. So I've had enough of a taste of the series now that I can wait until Blu Ray, but I've been enjoying what I've seen so far. |

In the interest of bringing some Initial D discussion back to the thread, I had my eye on this when it got announced:
"Initial D Stage Series Complete Blu-ray" https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B0BXDHJWKY ![]() (First mentioned in this thread here) Right off the bat I could tell it was SD-BD since it's fitting all six main stages onto only two discs, so I was curious to see what masters they would use. I finally decided to buy it and check it out for myself. Got it in hand yesterday, and it's pretty much the worst-case scenario. From what I can tell, everything is just downscaled from the previous Blu-ray releases, instead of using native SD masters where applicable, which would be preferable by a mile. The upscale of First Stage is practically unwatchable to me, and downscaling it back to 480i doesn't come close to negating the damage done. Perhaps the most positive thing I can say is that Third Stage and everything after are passable. Most if it is HD animation downscaled to 480i, with the exception of Fourth Stage, which is once again a downscale of the HD upscale, but it at least beats out the original DVD by being proper widescreen. I'll try to post screenshots and maybe even comparisons to some DVD versions tomorrow, but as I said before, it's just a downscale of the old Blu-ray Box versions, so if you've seen those, you know what to expect. |
