What's the freaking deal with the studios and releasing classic musicals?
No Oklahoma, no sound of music, no Seven Brides, no King and I, no Little Shop of Horrors, no Annie, no Fiddler on the Roof, no Cabaret, Etc.

Hopefully the upcoming Singing in the Rain will open the floodgates.

The upcoming version is 2021, not 1961.

All signs seem to point to Criterion having West Side Story (1961) so if a UHD is to come out, it would be from them.

As far as I know, it's not happening anymore. Not sure why anyone would want a remake when the original has Ellen Greene.

When I think of classic musicals I think of Fox, WB, and MGM. Because of this I never get my hopes up.

Well, at least there's this remake, which, according to some people, is better than the original and will be remembered 60 years from now instead.

Eh... I'm not getting into a guessing game with retrospective opinions on modern movies (musicals in particular). It'd be nice to see them have that level of staying power.

on DVD and blu-ray they were great sellers though, heck some of the classic musicals only had like 30 different releases each

some like The Sound Of Music, Carousel, South Pacific, maybe Oklahoma!?, West Side Story 1961 even have 4k DCP finished for some years now, so there isn't even any of the basic work to do, maybe some would get a slight HDR grading addition but that would be it in terms of any possible work to be done

whoever "got that" got it wrong since we've gotten more catalog from them the last two years than maybe all other studios combined now

But who’s talking about Paramount? This be MGM, and they not be caring a jot (see also: Fox and all the classsic musicals of theirs that Disnee have. You know, the same Disnee that’s released the smallest amount of live action catalogue UHDs out of all the majors? This really isn’t rocket science, guys).

Look at the industry numbers. Don’t go by forums like this where we have videophiles.

This was the first and only movie that got me into a theater since before the pandemic, and I absolutely LOVED it. I cannot wait for this release!
