Comedy Central didn’t break the movies up. They were produced as 4 episodes each (the credits have 4 production codes) and the whole point of doing it that way was to have the 4 movies and also 16 episodes that could be aired alongside the other episodes.

This is the fourth resurrection not second:

Came back as direct to video movies.

Comedy Central bought the rights to those movies and broke them up as a season.

Comedy Central then after the success of that “season” revived it. Then a pay dispute with cast could have derailed that.

Now Hulu is bringing it back and another pay dispute is happening.
No the movies and the seasons on Comedy Central are all part of the same revival. The idea was Comedy Central were buying the syndication rights and they were talking about doing new episodes. So what they agreed on was they'd bring it back as direct-to-video movies and, if those did well (which they did), they'd commission all new episodes and the direct-to-video movies could be split up into four episodes each to make up a fifth season.

I'm surprised you watched the show; Bender was a large part of it.

Futurama without Bender is like a pizza with no crust. It's like baseball without strikeouts. It's like Terminator 2: Judgment Day without the grain.

Great show and would have been even better without him imo. Fully aware how incomprehensible that is to some people. Just one person’s opinion, no big deal really.

100% respect.

But to me it sounds like... this sunset is so beautiful! I just wish that giant ball of nuclear plasma would move so I could enjoy it more.

Bender is my favorite character by far.

He's the Ringo of Futurama. Or Maybe he's the Yoko.

Either way, it just ain't Futurama w/out my favorite alcoholic, intermittently suicidal robot from the future.

They keep canceling and bringing it back. I mean, I'm GLAD it's being revived, but respect the series and stop doing this shit.

For me, Futurama is far better than the Simpsons, American Dad, and Family Guy.

Family Guy's peak was the first three seasons before it was cancelled.

There were a couple of good episodes when it came back from cancellation, but other than that, the show got away from the subtle humor I loved about it in the first few seasons. And Peter went from being this lovable doofus father, to the show turning him into a literal 3 year old in a man's body and just super annoying.

American Dad never did anything for me.

Simpsons at its peak? I'd say it was about even. Simpsons stopped being good right around the time that Futurama started really taking off (which is no coincidence, because a lot of the good Simpsons writers left to work on Futurama)

Futurama without Bender is like Family Guy without Stewie.

Just to be the Devil's Advocate here but sometimes recasting voice actors has worked out well.

Most people would associate Meg's voice on Family Guy with Mila Kunis rather than Lacey Chabert.

I think Big Mouth was also very successful with it's recasting of Jenny Slate with Ayo Edebiri for the Missy character.

Family Guy debuted two months prior to Futurama.

Anyways. I’ll always be partial to Futurama simply because of the many nights on adult swim I fell asleep to it then it waking me up at 1am when the replay came on. Turns out there’s a futurama sleepers subreddit for people who experienced the same.
