Did I dream it or what?? - I feel like 4K editions of the first 4 movies were announced shortly after the boxset came out...

I'm happy with the boxset and would only care to upgrade the first 4 but only for 4K as I don't care about packaging. Actually, I wouldn't upgrade part 3 as the 1080p 3D version is the best I've ever seen this title and I'm not sure there even is a 4K 3D standard yet.

Packaging at Amazon confirms no 3D, which could mean they're offering the remastered disc that drops even the anaglyph version; seems more likely than their reauthoring the older master just to remove it. But someone will have to confirm...

I highly doubt it's the new remaster, Shout has the rights to that i guess

Paramount released their own edition of the new masters for the first four films in their most recent 8 Film Collection. Part 3 is presented 2D-only--no anaglyph version as with their prior release--and 1, 2 and 4 are open matte... I don't know what's in the new Steelbook, but if they wanted to release a completely 3D-free disc, the remastered is the only Paramount release I'm aware of that meets that description.

1, 2 and 4 are not open matte in the 8-film collection btw, they're 1.78:1.

Seeing as the "40th Anniversary Limited Edition" banner (used on the first two) has been dropped on the third, maybe they will release all eight before 2029. It would be awful to wait seven years to get the entire set.

It's very likely they could stop after part 4. Or if they do release 5-8 individually it wouldn't surprise me at all if they did something stupid like use ugly, cheap cover art like the part 5-8 DVD releases in 2001-2002.

Did someone say "Be right back" in 3 or is that just generic slasher movie dialogue? "He can't be alive" seems like it would have been the obvious choice.

I would be very annoyed if they stopped at 4. I bought 1 and 2 with the hope they will at least get to part 8.

They're open matte compared to Shout's releases which are matted to 1.85:1.

Didn't Andy ask Debbie after her shower (while she was reading Fangoria) if she wanted something to drink? And after telling him what she wanted, he said "Be right back", as he walked out of the bedroom on his hands before meeting up with Jason in the hallway who then sliced him in half...

To Me The Obvious quote on the back cover should have been "I Have Warned Thee"

It's very disappointing that for the 40th Anniversary Paramount was to cheap to pony up for a new 3-D master, there was lots of room for improvement on the Shout 3-D version. I hope one day The 3-D Film Archive gets a chance to do a 3-D realignment on Friday the 13th part 3!

I don't need them, but as long as they keep releasing them with the awesome artwork, I'll keep buying these steels.

No they're not.

They're still "matted" to 1.78:1 on the Paramount discs. Like I said, these are not open matte. That’s when you completely remove the matting, exposing the entire film frame (1.33:1) and that is not what is happening on the Paramount discs. They're opened up slightly compared to SF’s 1.85:1 framing, but that doesn't make them open matte.

Here's an example: https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&...190542&i=0&l=0

Note how in the first image, there's a ton of space at the top and bottom of the frame (aka open matte) and the second image is of the same frame, but matted to 1.85:1.

~Matt
