It seems to me that giving a "crappy" film the royal UHD treatment is a lot cheaper and easier to get done than the same to a bigger studio film. And because of that the risk will be way lower when it comes to trying to turn a profit. It does boggle my mind though why a film like Gleaming the Cube can't come out but stuff I've never heard of is outright flooding the market right now.

Not gonna lie, I had to Google what Gleaming the Cube was, lmao, whereas I'd already known of Miami Connection.

EDIT: Okay, Gleaming the Cube sounds badass and now I really wanna see it. Thanks, Telemachus!

Gleaming the Cube is part of the holy trinity: Rad, North Shore, Gleaming the Cube.

We only need one more.

To me, all films are history- both good and bad films. They are time capsules of so many things: the culture in which they were made both by the era and country they were filmed in, the experiences of the writers, director, etc, and more.

For me, I created a short story back in 2015. It was my first time ever doing so and it was about my favorite show growing up (Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers) that I had re-discovered. The writing oozes the love for the characters that literally saved my life as a child, and it was a time capsule of how I was feeling at the time dealing with that and I found out soon afterwards that I was gay. Writing is so personal that much of your subconscious is on the page. I sought to make something lighthearted but it ended up being a very intense film noir, following the vein of directors and styles of writing that I liked.

Trying to write a sequel is so difficult because even though I am totally unconstrained by budget, cast, location, etc unlike a motion picture I'm quite literally not the same person I was seven years ago. That's why the story stays exactly as it is, even though looking back on it there are one or two minor things I'd want to change.

This film is no different, regardless of its success or lack thereof.

Miami Connection is the real deal. Its earnestness is the reason why. Think of a Max Fischer play.

So thank God smaller boutique labels are doing this.
The Abyss and True Lies are masterfully made films...that still haven't been given even 16x9 DVD's, ley alone HD releases, in the U.S. Miami Connection is only watchable when being riffed or surrounded by inebriated friends. It's not something of value beyond that. And they're not lost, because the only reason Miami Connection is relevant is because it was riffed by Rifftrax.

nah, Miami Connection is relevant because of its initial rediscovery from the Drafthouse crew and subsequent rise to cult movie fame.

Rifftrax's contribution is just a small petal from a whole tree of adoration for its go-for-broke earnestness.

Yup. I had heard of/watched/owned the DVD of Miami Connection before RiffTrax released their track. Same with The Room, Birdemic, Samurai Cop, etc. RiffTrax helped their popularity, but these were well-known “bad” movies before they did them.

I love RiffTrax but they didn't exactly make Miami Connection funnier. I prefer to watch it on its own, it's much funnier to me.

Red Letter Media introduced me to it via Best of the Worst, as I'm sure it did for many people as well.

Yeah, on top of being just a fun movie, it's story of accidental rediscovery is pretty legendary. Sets it apart from other "bad" 80s movies just because of that.

New York Ninja is the only one I can think of with such a similar legendarily rediscovery.

Yeah although I was a little let down by that one in comparison. Samurai Cop is probably another one.

Huuuggggeeeee surprise! Have the Drafthouse BD and while that was serviceable (coming from a release print) this will be an obvious upgrade.

Also, I heard the reason why the Drafthouse BD went oop was because they later discovered MGM (who owns the output of distributor Manson International) actually had US theatrical and video rights (though not streaming, which explains why its still available digital). Unless im wrong, this has to come from MGM since they 're probably the ones who had the film elements the whole time.
