Nice seeing Den Enfaldige Mördaren presented in its OAR and not 1.78:1 as one is led to believe by the specs on the back.

I've heard that Gräsänklingar is not the restored version but an upscale of an old SD master. Can anyone confirm?

It’s been some time since I saw the film, but from what I remember, it looked good. Definitely seemed like a new scan to me, and not just an upscale.

What weird mistakes they made with the Den enfaldige mördaren release:
Quote:
Poorly mastered, with the subtitles being placed carelessly around the screen and the audio track has all dialogue coming from the right front channel rather than the center.
Packaging mistakenly states the audio is Dolby Digital and the aspect ratio as 1.77:1.
There is an English subtitle track on the disc, though it is empty.

Yeah, Den enfaldige mördaren was a wasted release. The audio and subtitle issue is the worst part. I contacted them about it and they promised to do better in the future. Some of their other releases are fine, but It seems like their product testing before mass production is lacking. After the issues their Blu-ray releases have been very few. Many of their releases are DVD only, unfortunately.

It seems that Majeng uses the infamous shitty danish company SMD Entertainment (Soul Media) to produce their BluRays and DVDs. Soul Media is infamously known for their botched release of "Samurai Rebellion" (which is still up for sale), where the subtitles go completely out of sync in the middle of the movie. When this information was disclosed to Soul Media, they basically said that they'd do nothing about it...

Soul Media have a lot to learn when it comes to quality control and customer service. It is very strange for a distributor of physical media to have that attitude. Mistakes happen (even the big studios mess up sometimes), but the question is: What you do about it?

A flawed release should at the very least be taken off the market with some kind of compensation to the customers. But most important. Test the product before it is released. Physical media collectors expect, at the very least, that the video and audio quality is as good as it can be, and that the subtitles work without issues.
