I was in a few of those back in the day, one had a curtain, super easy to sneak in, the other was a beaded curtain! haha!!

Our local libraries don't take donations like that.

See above, but our local shelters and retirement places love to take them. But it depends on location.

But ya, I guess I can call them and see if they would want it.
See above about libraries not taking things like that. They have very limited space and most prefer money donations. We take our old stuff (books more so than movies) to a used bookstore nearby. She sells movies (DVD/Bluray haven't seen a 4k there yet) for $0.50! So she doesn't pay well when you bring them to her. But we buy a lot from her! Last time we were there I picked up 10 movies! 4 I was actively looking for! Her selection is very small though. I regretfully (I mean not really they went to a good cause and they got heavy use) donated 3 large paper grocery bags full of DVDs to a local retirement/rehab place and they LOVED it. But yeah, I'm now having to rebuy a lot of them.

If I were closer I'd love to buy some off of you, do you have an est of shipping prices to the US?

I'm not a "yank", I'm in Canada and ship things all the time.

If you are shipping within Canada, you can send a DVD domestically via lettermail and it only costs $1.94.

If you are shipping to the USA, a single DVD will have to be sent via Small Packet, which will cost somewhere around $9, but if you ship a bunch of them you can still ship via Small Packet or Tracked Packet fairly cheaply (4 DVDs will probably still be somewhere in the $10 range).

Hmmm to be fair I've only ever tried shipping Laserdiscs...I just assumed it'd be the same hassle for DVDs. But good to know.

I cant imagine anyone randomly breaking into that space would even own a VCR to play the films available.

Plenty of DVDs, plus just the computers and posters and shit.

I have a bunch of DVDs...but no one is going to buy them from me, and if they did, they wouldn't pay the cost of shipping (which is retarded in Canada). You try selling them for $1 at garage sales, but no one wants them.

And that's DVD's...not even talking about VHS or Laserdisc.

They just sit there, but I don't have the heart to throw them in the garbage because every fibre in my being says that's a crime.
In larger cities with more 2nd hand resale shops with space to stock them, they'll purchase some movies, even when they're on older formats like DVD, VHS or Laserdisc. They may not purchase an entire lot of them and they certainly aren't going to spend more than half of what you'd get for it on Ebay, but if an individual brings in about a dozen movies, they might consider purchasing half of them for .50cents to $1/movie. Sometimes that fluctuates a little higher if the person reviewing the value of the movies sees something that they know will fetch more money fast, and has good/high resale value, then they'll offer a little more.

Back when Blockbuster Video was liquidating it's DVDs and blu-rays before closing their stores, they were selling them off for similar prices as resale shops, if not less. That was an interesting experience and I still own most of those rental blu-rays from BB. It was certainly a topic of discussion on these boards because BB stores were everywhere so many folks here benefited from those sales.

I've only seen one library with a collection of movies, and those movies were only available because of their historical significance, as in they were highly rated/regarded by the AFI. For example, my first time seeing Orson Well's Touch of Evil was from a library rental. I believe that's how I also acquired a copy of Citizen Kane to watch because no Blockbuster video carried it
I believe they also had some Kubrick and Hitchcock films there. But there was no chance I'd find any modern action or horror movies. Only "classic" cinema and I think the same is probably true of most other libraries.

Yes. As someone with a ever growing collection of posters, that'd be my score.
