I don't like them. I guess it's not a huge deal, but I figure those were earlier releases and we'll probably see less of them in the future.

The Stir of Echoes one looks ugly. It looks like somebody spilled ink and said "forget it. don't have time to fix it."

I don't care for the "swoosh", but it's not a deal breaker.

I like the swoosh with the metallic look and feel, really sets it apart from standard dvd, and makes it feel more special than a plain jane dvd cover.

Although I would rather not have any swooshes or metallic looks to the cases.. I would like it if all the companies decided on one format instead on some having the swoosh, others have the cropped, and others having the plain covers.. it just gets annoying.

I think many of the people writing in this thread have some feelings about it. You're paying a premium price for a premium product. That premium product should not look cheap. A lot of Blu-Ray packaging (like so much home video packaging) does look cheap. And that kind of sucks when you consider that cheap looking package may be staring you in the face from a bookshelf for many years to come.

I don't like it at all either. I also dislike the sides of the few titles that use that metallic base. American Psycho is one of them. The Prestige's lettering is also like that.

I really don't see the big deal. What bothers me is when I'm removing all those stupid stickers they put all over them and the glue doesn't come off and ruins the plastic covering. I am very careful when removing these plastic pieces, but sometimes it makes no difference. That's what pisses me off; not the art work.

I have already griped about this in the Bill Hunt thread to an extent. Me being the film purist would actually prefer to see the ORIGINAL poster art as the cover. However, the studios usually get some LAME paint monkey to photoshop a new cover emphasizing the stars or the characters in the movie (thanks Bill). As for the "swooshes" and other inane marketing crap, it is again to point out to the consumer that this is something different from the norm (DVD). I have found myself being OCD about covers in the past few years and replacing some of them with original poster art like IN NAME OF THE ROSE and THE RING because they had really awesome art direction.

Do most of you people sit and just look at Blu Ray covers all day. Take the disk out of the package pop it in the player and put the case away. Who cares what the cover looks like?

Just cos it doesn't matter to you doesn't mean it that's the same for others. The cover and additional promotional artwork are all part of the film as a whole. Depending on the film, a lot of talented and hard working designers & artists create them.

The Disney cover art really irks me.

I also hated the Universal cover arts on the HD side.

Why can't our BDs just come in a plain brown paper bag instead?
