Only the minor stuff and even then only on DVD like the ITV TV show Carry On Christmas.
https://networkonair.com/all-product...y-on-christmas

The films are considered Crown Jewels titles by both ITV and Studio Canal so retain themselves rather than let Network have access who release some of their stuff they don’t want to do.

The ITV films are on Britbox and ITVX Premium, both paid streaming. Some like Kyber were restored in HD for Britbox but many are still the grotty old SD masters upscaled. Obviously ITV haven’t invested as much in their titles as Studio Canal have done with theirs.

Only Camping, Up The Khyber and Abroad have been restored in HD by ITV, and they are Britbox exclusives.

I think the expectation is that Imprint will put out three box sets of AA titles. If they go beyond that with the Rank titles we will get a marginal uplift from the old DVDs. ITV are useless.

Yeah, I can't see them going further than Collection 3, which will be 75% previously released discs!

I do have to say though that the ITV Content Delivery remasters of the three upgraded Rank films are excellent. It's a shame they are stuck in a limbo of ITV not wanting to do anything with them but also not letting Network have them, even though they really want to do it! At this stage I'd settle for Blurays of just those three, just to have them (Abroad is my favourite Rank).

Abroad is in my top 3 Rank titles alongside Camping and At Your Convenience. My favourite AA title is Screaming.

They’re in chronological order… it’s one of the least strange things I’ve ever encountered

ah, well that IS interesting. That means, eventually if the series continues, they will have boxsets that include all 4 of the UK Carry on films released individually?

May have to hold on to those to watch last and sell them if these box sets continue.

Thank you for that insight. I never would have realized that.

BTW- on Via Visions site they say 'worldwide debut of these classics,' which is clearly not true since I already have one of them

The third set will only have one 'new' title - Spying.

Love Spying think it's one that gets overlooked, first film with Babs

Well they're going chronologically and there are only 4 left under the StudioCanal licence - Spying, Cleo, Cowboy and Screaming (the latter three of which have been available in the UK for some time). If they're doing volume 2 it seems unlikely they won't also do the third and final set.

Amusingly I noticed that ViaVision are advertising these sets directly in the UK as "Fully UK Compatible!" Never seen anything like that before!

Probably aimed at the DVD brigade who think we're still in different regions

What about volume 4?
  • Don't Lose Your Head (1967)
  • Follow That Camel (1967)
  • Carry On Doctor (1967)
  • Carry On Up the Khyber (1968)

I felt that last one was actually one of the better ones. No chance for this set coming?

All the Rank films after Screaming are owned by ITV Studios, so won't be part of this release programme. Additionally, of the 18 ITV own, only 3 have HD masters (Camping, Up The Khyber and Abroad), which were created for Britbox UK. The other 15 (Don't Lose Your Head, Follow That Camel, Doctor, Again Doctor, Up The Jungle, Loving, Henry, At Your Convenience, Matron, Girls, Dick, Behind, England, Emmannuelle and the compilation That's Carry On) only exist in PAL SD as a mixture of 16:9 anamorphic and 4:3 letterboxed scans, and there seems to be little chance of this changing.

ITV Studios is one of Via Vision’s licensing partners.

Via Vision has released Carry on Sergeant (1958) through Carry On Emmannuelle (1978) on DVD.

That's fine but there are only HD masters for 3 of the Rank films, with seemingly no plans to continue, and given that Britbox money paid for those ones I'm not sure they're even available to licence. They're certainly not being used for TV transmissions.

I'd love it to happen but I think the time has passed. I'm preordering the Via Vision sets to do my bit, but I think we're exceptionally lucky to have even got these. The films are hugely out of favour in the UK (on a corporate level at least - they still rate well on TV but execs hate them), they haven't been treated respectfully for about 20 years, and that preservation money needs to come from here, and it's a sizeable five figure sum to do the other 15.

ITV should have let Network have them while the opportunity was there. That was the time, now it's gone.
