Wow that comes unexpected. I am however perfectly fine with the Disney disc.

The most random release of the year. Not only it was already released by Disney, but Disney licensing out (Pixar) titles is even weirder.

Believe it guys, it's on their website. I know, I know, I had to do a double-take when I saw it myself.

As others have said, this is a great sign that Disney is willing to work with other labels. Hopefully more stuff is on the table for future releases.

This is the biggest thing to happen to Criterion ever as a company. So happy for them to have landed this deal.

We are going to get so much cool shit.

I received this email and am in complete shock. With Disney's more recent hesitancy on the future of physical media, there is a major opportunity for Criterion (or other distributors) to pick up some of the disc slack. What's also great to see is the inclusion of Dolby Vision with Criterion at the helm. This was such an absolutely amazing surprise.

But also, this year is getting very, very expensive...

Hell, there's a lot of Disney movies I'd pick over Wall-E. Snow White or Fantasia would be perfect from a historical preservation perspective, and even Toy Story would work from that angle. It feels like Wall-E was chosen only because it's the Pixar movie "serious" film people fell the least weird about enjoying.

The email says it's a collaboration between Disney and Pixar so they're only doing...animation?

Which would be a huge disappointment as the transfers likely won’t be big improvements or improvements at all

Maybe a Criterion partnership is the only way we’ll see DV on disc from Disney!

This would pair nicely with an Idiocracy (from Fox) release. I gotta wonder if Criterion would broach the subject of Song of the South.
