I’m not entirely sure on this one. Destin at IGN really enjoyed his time with it, and had a lot of positive things to say about the game. But Skill Up posted a preview and he seems to suggest it’s more of a middling experience with a setting, formula and gameplay done better in other recent games, including some of Team Ninja’s own. I still need to get to Rebirth, so I will probably not pick this up at launch, but I might pick it up in April or May.

I'm not seeing anything impressive about this game whatsoever. I feel like Sony is pushing this game like it's supposed to be something special, but I'm not seeing it. It just looks like a run of the mill, high "6" or low "7" game to me that will be quickly relegated to the bargain bin.

Being able to glide in this game looks like fun and is probably a favorite type of vehicle/transportation in open world games. Rise of the Ronin has a glider, which is nice to see.
Also interesting is the combination of swords and guns, probably of the 1800s era.
The graphics however, remind me of a PS3 game for some reason. That's only from the short trailer I've seen, with brief clips. Maybe the full game looks much better. For 69.99, I am expecting top level stuff at that price. With that in mind, while this looks potentially good, I'm not fully convinced yet, and will wait and see, probably picking it up at a lower price.

I need to learn how large the map is, what kind of variety it offers and things to do in the map, how interesting the map is to explore, the combat and story, and camera views available and difficulty range.

Tecmo likes to make tough games based on their 3D Ninja Gaiden games, so that is a potential concern.

Overall, it looks interesting, so it'll be good to learn more about Rise of the Ronin on PS5.

There's another game similar to this, that's been out for a year now, that I was mildly interested in too, that I have yet to play. Giant monsters can be good, or a major pain to defeat and time sink that's not often fun.

Look at the open world.

It looks interesting, but I wonder how different from Tsushima Ghosts? Visually, this could use some work IMO, but looks mostly good. I like that brick city area. That's cool to see mixed in with this game's world.

Okay, this helps.

Reviews are in.

pretty much a 7ish score. So ok.

I am still all systems go as I just love some Ronin stuff.

It's Ninja Gaiden in an open world. I'm about it.

The game has tough competition with Dragon's Dogma 2 releasing this March too. I am surprised so many games releasing March, April 2024. Will May through October be a drought? I hope not.

Yes. They said the combat is a lot of fun along with the gliding despite a "bland story". Those are probably two of the more important things in a game right there. Good combat and getting around the game world in a fun way.

This is more in line with what I was expecting. I’ll wait. I’m the weirdo that decided to put my money towards Alone in the Dark this week instead of Dragon’s Dogma 2.

publishers always release big games around the same time, not sure what the strategy behind that is

we also recently got 2 jrpgs Persona 3 Reload/Final Fantasy VII Rebirth releasing close to each others

This seems like a wait and catch it on sale game. Pretty much every review says it's fun but frustrating, a 6ish game.

They said this game lets you choose a number of unique weapons, including swords, knives, and a rifle bayonet with a dagger at the end. A grappling hook too.

Thanks.
A lot of games overwhelming those who buy them all on release day. If there are 5 new games at 69.99 each, that's $350 before taxes for 2 months of the year. March and April. I think because it's something with fiscal earnings for corporations maybe.

I'll usually buy one game that interests me the most, and then by time it's completed, the other games will be on sale.

Regarding Dragon's Dogma 2, no 60fps option, no sale for me! I've drawn my line in the sand!

Hahah. I am the weirdo that bought both. (Alone and Ronin) I'm a sucker for a RE Survival horror type game.

I like playing 2 games at once. I'm odd for sure.

This is off topic, but since you brought it up. I’m enjoying AITD (it’s solid despite the mid reviews), but I had to stop playing due to a terrible audio bug that occurs where it cuts out then distorts the audio and doesn’t come back on. It’s terrible. Many players are experiencing it, it happens in the
[Show spoiler]swamp section
of the game. Pretty bummed out that I can’t continue until there’s a patch.

I made it to the title. About 90 mins in. I like it, but I’m so bad at these games. Thankfully there is a difficulty setting. I’m on easy, and not ashamed of it, and still suck. Ha. Hopefully I’ll get better.

Looking forward to playing this, but I’m going to hold off and wait for a sale. Bought the disappointing Alone In The Dark at full price (not worth it, wait for it to drop in price. Wish I did.) There’s not much to look forward to on the horizon, so I’ll save this one for a later date.

AITD pales in comparison to the recent RE remakes. Alan Wake 2 is sooooo much better too. Again, very disappointing.

I had the audio bug in the same area (it’s a fairly short section). I quit and closed out the game, booted it back up about an hour later and it was fine and haven’t experienced it since (on my second play through.)

How do you like Ronin so far? The grappling hook? If the full map is open right away or has to be unlocked I wonder.
