Try attenuating the rear channel a bit. if the balance front to rear is slightly off in a mix intended to place sound objects in the middle, you get the effect you describe. I have several discs where the rear channels are 6dB out of whack with the front.

Thanks, bigshot, I’ll try that next time. I’ll start out with 6dB and work my way from there.
