Since it seems to be such a precious topic to you, dunemoon, tell us- who you would like to see play Bond next and why? And why shouldn't we have a Bond that further reflects the time, and perhaps focuses on some aspects of the character other than the recent Bourne-ification of him?

I have no sympathy for Bond fans who lose interest in the franchise due the direction it’s taking, even for reasons that aren’t connected to some woke paranoia.
There’s already 25 of these things that you’ll always be able to watch. 25. Bond isn’t that interesting of a character to warrant this many films. No character does for that matter. Honestly, I’m surprised people keep anticipating more of these. There’s so little that can be done to keep this particular character and formula fresh. |

I'll keep watching new Bond films for as long as EON keeps making them.

Bond should be the traditional hero protecting and espousing traditional western democratic values. Humour in measured doses and actual spy craft employed to further the plot. The supporting characters stay in the office and their social life left to the imagination. Also, I’d prefer the pretentious artiness of the Craig era to be discarded (opera, poetry readings etc). As for the action? A slow build up to a satisfying conclusion. |

Because Hollywood is cowardly, the next bond won't be white or black or a woman, they are too afraid to upset either side and risk their cash cow. They will choose a brown man for bond, probably Pakistani, or mixed. His back story will be that he's into men and women but only beds women on screen because Hollywood is gutless

Ah - he works for the British - they are not considered "western" - that would be the USA. Great Britian couldn't be any more different than the USA. It's still referred to as The British Empire you know. |

Modern audiences can not handle slow build ups to action. Just like they can not sit still for a lot of drawn out exposition.
The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is a fantastic throwback film but it failed to spark with audiences because it was took too long to tell its story. Casino Royale 2006 was also a nice return to the Dr. No formula but again, audiences rejected it for being too much like Dr. No. Bond fans were so enamored that Skyfall would restore the Bond film traits that were so loved and missed that we laughed and cheered at Q introducing a radio. And that’s the thing: Bond the books and Bond the movies are two different distinct things. You can move Bond foward while keeping his trademark charactistics. Brosnan’s Bond got a verbal scolding from M in Goldeneye but he still kept his ways. Craig’s Bond was still infamous for bringing random women home in No Time To Die. From your article: Quote:

Thankfully, Bond is dead to me right now - since the one and only Bond I was ever interested in was Craig, then it is over indeed.
That doesn't mean it can't change, but if the new one won't click with me, then I will just ignore future movies with no regrets. |

Evolution in the 007 franchise has always been a thing. No Bond has been the exact same as the other. We've had dark, we've had light, we've had campy, we've had serious, we've had realistic, we've had over the top, the stories even evolved from Cold War to reflecting the times we live in.
This doesn't surprise me, though I'm not sure how men have "evolved". Judging by our society, the notion of evolution is very subjective. We haven't evolved, our techniques just change. Old ways are given different names. The more things change the more they stay the same Last edited by jess1581; 09-22-2022 at 09:51 PM. |
